White
2003 Domaine Epis Chardonnay Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Macedon Ranges
92 points
Classy nose with a touch of funkyness. Full flavour structure in a super tight body. Good length showing another 2-3 years promise. Good clean acid in a very Chablis style
White
2004 Tarrington Chardonnay DeIreys Australia, Victoria, Western Victoria, Henty
89 points
Perhaps not a good bottle of this as there were touches of VA floating around. An odd pong blew off in the glass to show very delicate flavour on the palette. An unoaked chardonnay in a very Chablis style with lots of lemon and citrus. Rated as the best chardonnay in Australia by some ....... hopefully this is just an off bottle
White
2002 Savaterre Chardonnay Australia, Victoria, North East, Beechworth
93 points
Beautiful golden shine in the glass. Tonnes of character with almost a touch of savoury flavour. Tonnes of life in the palette with some bitterness touches. Fat palette with spice and some residular sugar to balance things out. High oak, high alcohol, very burgundian. Drink this one up now - it's terrific as is.
White
2002 Bindi Chardonnay Quartz Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Macedon Ranges
85 points
Tonnes of character on the nose. Palette still full of acid with unfortunately touches of VA. Super tight - needs another year or two to soften up some more. Perhaps too much oak for my liking, very much a Burgundy style

White
2002 Cullen Wines Chardonnay Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
85 points
Heavy nose and a very classical Australian style of Chardonnay. Showing very simple unfortunately with too much oak for me this time around - I don't get it, this doesn't match up with the bottle we had 4 months ago at all.
White
2002 Tyrrell's Chardonnay Vat 47 Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
91 points
Took awhile for the nose to open up the glass. Lots of character and a decent length on the palette. Peachy fruit with a soft, classy palette. Showing lots of life - give it another 2-3 years easy.
White
2003 Blain-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriotte France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
Character plus - an obvious Burgundian style. Clean, almost empty on the nose but tonnes of flavour on the palette. Another 5 years easy left in this one - perhaps even needed to sort out the length as at times it appeared abit short.

Flight 3 (3 notes)

White
1999 Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay Art Series Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
95 points
Probably the Chardonnay of the night for me - no surprise there. Lots of spice and flavour on the palette. Well integrated oak, perhaps abit harsh in the glass to begin with - needed a minute or two to settle. Lots of intensity with tonnes of life left yet.
White
1999 Giaconda Chardonnay Estate Vineyard Australia, Victoria, North East, Beechworth
89 points
Perhaps an off bottle as a touch disappointing for a Giaconda. Age on the nose but the palette was just abit out-of-whack. Opened up the glass but the overall fruit was just abit light and empty. Still showing great complexity and secondary-characters though
White
2001 Giaconda Chardonnay Estate Vineyard Australia, Victoria, North East, Beechworth
91 points
Now here is some excellent fruit quality. Life on the nose with good sharp flavour and a lasting acid base. Lots of integration, obviously fairly worked over.

Flight 4 (3 notes)

White
2000 Penfolds Chardonnay Reserve Bin 00A Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
85 points
Excellent character on the nose with good fruit filling it out. Perhaps a touch sour ? Showing none of the bannana or tropical fruit character we remember. Well structured, but not showing as well as it has previously
White
1998 Penfolds Chardonnay Yattarna Australia, South Australia
89 points
I can see why Penfolds don't like people calling this White Grange - cause while it's a good drop, it isn't in that league, and they know it.

Softer, almost floral nose with a sharp-ending length on the palette. Perhaps not quite up to scratch this vintage.
White
2000 Mount Mary Chardonnay Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
86 points
Stronger on the nose, almost like creamed corn. Offensive flavour at the end of the palette, perhaps needs some more time to integrate. Try again in another 2-3 perhaps, or maybe just a bad bottle

Flight 5 (2 notes)

White
2004 Hoddles Creek Chardonnay Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
91 points
I'm liking this one. Super pong on the nose with a tart body. Excellent value for money. Lots of odd characters throwing the palette around, but it's adding character without blowing things completely. Perhaps a touch reductive but hay, it's something different at least.
White
2002 Scarborough Wine Co Chardonnay Blue Label Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
86 points
Spicy and tart. Basic style - not alot of oak left but very refreshing. Commercial style, probably should have been drunk by now and still showing well.
