Introduction

A small gathering for blind wines when most of us could probably still used time to recover from New Year's Eve

Flight 1 - Blind Whites (3 notes)

White
2005 Château Lynch-Bages Blanc de Lynch-Bages France, Bordeaux
91 points
Color: Pale yellow
Smell: Pineapple, floral, and delicate scents on the nose.
Taste: Pineapple, pear, honey, mineral, and hints of citrus
Overall: A delicate and elegant style that was just my style. Light-medium bodied with med acid, med fruit, and a finish that left me wanting to keep drinking this...I really like this style of wine
White
2004 Domaine des Baumard Savennières France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Savennières
88 points
Color: Pale yellow
Smell: Rubber, salted nuts, saline,
Taste: green apple, lemon, lime,
Overall: Lean and mineral driven.
White
2007 Jean-Luc Colombo Côtes du Rhône La Violette France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
70 points
Color: deep golden yellow
Smell: woodsy, mushroom, banana bread, stewed apples,
Taste: graham cracker, lemon, baked yellow apples, astringent and hot
Overall: Big, and overblown with a slightly painful pang on my tongue…but not acidity…just pain.

Flight 2 - Something Unique (1 note)

Orange
2004 Radikon Jakot Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Venezia Giulia IGT
90 points
Color: Bronze amber
Smell: Lambic, sour apples, baking spices, clove, orange peel, wood polish, pumpkin bread,
Taste: lemon curd, meringue,
Overall: Complex and wild….love it

Flight 3 - Off-Dry Whites (1 note)

Despite everyone's assertion that this is where they wanted to open this wine...I really thought it needed to be after the reds.

White - Off-dry
2006 Domaine Marc Kreydenweiss Riesling Kastelberg Vendanges Tardives France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru
85 points
Color: Golden yellow
Smell: rubber, golden raisins
Taste: lemon, pear, honey, apricot, peach
Overall: A little too reductive on the palate for me…it seems like it’s from a warm vintage. About an hour later the nose is screaming....unfortunately the palate still has not reached that level of readiness.

Flight 4 - Blind Reds (5 notes)

Red
2006 Moric Blaufränkisch Alte Reben Lutzmannsburg Austria, Burgenland, Mittelburgenland
92 points
Color: Ruby garnet (’06 Moric)
Smell: earth, black cherry, anise, mushrooms, menthol,
