Flight 1 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
2002 Claude Cazals Champagne Grand Cru Brut Millésimé France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Bruised apple nose. Creamy attack, fresh across the mid-palate. Quite refreshing. Seems to be plenty there though a little out of kilter at the moment, give it time. **(*)

Flight 2 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
1988 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut France, Champagne
Hardly a bubble visible, just a couple in the glass, stationary rather than rising. Quite a full straw to mid gold. Oxidative nose. An interesting mix between apparent age but a younger seeming palate. Plenty here. Good depth. Proper wine. ? Bolly or thereabouts. Lovely, but when revealed doesn't live up to the hype for me. Top ****

Flight 3 (3 notes)

White
2004 Caveau de Bacchus Savagnin Arbois Cuvée des Docteurs France, Jura, Arbois
Quite dark, fullish mid gold. Oxidative, quite sherry like on the nose. Fat in the glass. Really quite full. Quite a 'full on' style. ***1/2
White
2007 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Gouttes d'Or France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Very Chard on the nose, similar on palate. Burgundian. Mid weight, a sense of ripeness on the nose and attack but nicely mineral. Fleshes out during the evening whilst retaining it's line. Very nice wine. **(**)
White - Off-dry
1983 J.B. Becker Wallufer Walkenberg Riesling Spätlese halbtrocken Germany, Rheingau
Fuller than the Lafon but less so than the Arbois, a sort of mid straw. Pinot gris nose initially then it focuses up and becomes very riesling but with a degree of ripeness. No petrol notes though. Ripe on the nose and attack but finishes dry. Youngish Zind Humbrech riesling? Whoops. ***1/2

Flight 4 (2 notes)

White
1992 R. López de Heredia Rioja Blanco Reserva Viña Tondonia Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
Full straw. Dusty, waxy, lanolin and wet wool. Very fresh. Lemon. Some mineral. Lovely. ****
White - Off-dry
1990 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Mid gold. Avocado and cabbage on the nose, most curious. Very soft on palate, no obvious acidity. Riesling apparently though I wouldn't have guessed. Mid 70's maybe? What, Prum 90. No! Very advanced and really not correct. (**)*

Flight 5 (2 notes)

Red
1997 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Mid garnet, slightly dull. One sniff and it has to be burgundy. Late 80s to early 90s C de Nuits. Pretty high acidity with some underlying ripeness. This lacks a bit of generosity. ***1/2
Red
1998 Ridge Monte Bello USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
Full, dark, dense almost purple red. Minty nose. Really quite thick. New wod look and nose but Italian acidity. Fat and leggy. Really quite high acidity. Not sure this is particularly balanced. Amazed when this was revealed. Atypical or just in an awkward phase? ***

Flight 6 (1 note)

White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Château Coutet Barsac France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac
Quite a full mid gold. Ripe, opulent, coconut nose. Sweet, quite rich but with good freshness. Lovely. ****
