Disappointed by this. Light, citrusy, good acid, touch of sweetness, but it's thin and lacking a midpalate. A bit simple and boring.

No mistaking this for anything but Chenin. Lots of woolly character, with honeyed fruit and a subtle earthiness underlaid by good acidity. Delicious.

2008 Les Chais du Vieux Bourg Crémant du Jura Delire des Lyres France, Jura, Crémant du Jura

Weird stuff. This is all about mushroom and nutty flavors, with a leesy character and plenty of acid. But where's the fruit? Certainly plenty of interesting things going on, but I think this is one of those geeky wines that's more interesting than enjoyable.
Rosé - Sparkling
2008 Raventós i Blanc de Nit Spain, Cava
flawed
Oxidized? Certainly flawed. Poured out.

Loved this. Great nose of incredibly pure black fruit, with a touch of green (it's there, but I hardly noticed it and it certainly didn't bother me). Shockingly primary for a 15-year-old wine. In the mouth the wine is pure, rich, and intense, without being thick and heavy. The structure is there in terms of the shape of the wine, but the tannin is surprisingly resolved, and, like other Mayacamas cabs I've had (and uniquely among Cali cabs I think), the structure comes as much from the acid as it does from the tannin. Excellent with beef.

Red

Lovely old-Bordeaux nose with woodsy tobacco elements in front of red fruit. But in the mouth this hardly tastes like anything, and a bit of tannin dries out whatever flavor there is. Interestingly, the dregs of the bottle tasted the next day showed more fruit.
