Tasted blind. My least favorite wine in the lineup. Soft and sweetish with a licorice thing going on, reminds me of a Sonoma pinot. "Tastes low-end" I wrote in my notes. I was surprised to see this was a Kermit import.

2009 Hospices de Beaune Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Cuvée Pierre Floquet Maison Drouhin France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
91 points
Tasted blind. Probably one of the easiest wines to like in the lineup, maybe because it had the most scale, but it also had a lot going on. Scents were already winey and mushroomy and past the primary fruit, although some mild candied sweetness showed up later on. Some people commented on the oak and it did have a touch of cedar on the palate but it wasn't excessive.

2009 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Bousse d'Or France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
89 points
Tasted blind. The pro reviews had called this a powerhouse and I was very curious to see if it would be possible to pick out of the lineup on that basis. It wasn't. It was full and fleshy but not any denser or fatter than the others, with nice sap to the palate and a touch of tobacco. I didn't notice much going on aromatically other than a quiet, vaguely savory thing.

2009 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets St. Georges France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
88 points
Tasted blind. I was pretty surprised to see this revealed as the Gouges: definitely not the challenging style of legend. I got a little whiff of candycane on the nose and it had a soft, gummy texture to it. "Pretty easygoing," I wrote. Eventually it showed some more tannic structure on the entry.

2009 Domaine Alain Michelot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

Tasted blind. Hard to make out much of the scent; there was a sense of something billowy but inexpressive just the same. There was plenty of flesh to this and a decent amount of sweetness to the fruit but it also had a slight edginess to it, a sense of stony solidity. It seems to get more structured as it sits.

2009 Domaine Pavelot (Jean-Marc et Hugues) Aloxe-Corton France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Aloxe-Corton

Tasted blind. I didn't much care for this one as it was probably the only one I thought a little too woody for its own good. Aromas were all cedar and there was a definite cedar accent to the orchard fruit too. it did deepen and pick up some sap and gravitas with air, with the fruit complexion turning more plummy.

2009 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru
87 points
Tasted blind. Fairly quiet on the nose, and comes across a little boxy and structured, although I didn't pick up any stemmy notes or other telltale whole cluster signatures to give this away as the Chandon de Briailles. It picks up more flesh with air and softens up, too, with the fruit turning a little plummy.

2009 Remoissenet Père et Fils Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Serpentières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru

Tasted blind. Slightly candied scent at first, then turns a bit mute. An easygoing wine, nice and fleshy but nothing much else to say about it.
Red
2009 Cecile Tremblay Morey St. Denis Tres Girard France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
Tasted blind. It's got some suspended CO2 in there giving it a light spritz, which made a few of us suspect this was the Tremblay even though we'd never had a Tremblay just because it seemed in line with the current hip fashions in Burgundy winemaking. It got better after a shake and showed some sweetish fruit but this tends to be the style you need to leave in the decanter overnight before you can get much of a read on it.
