Introduction

Many thanks to all for brings some precious bottles and the staff at the China Club who seemed unfazed with the amount of decanters on our table.

Flight 1 - Three nations of whites (3 notes)

Riesling goes very well with chinese food

White
2007 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Murgers des Dents de Chien Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
91 points
Notes of citrus lemon and vanilla.

Medium length with a nice balance
White - Off-dry
2001 Schlossgut Diel Dorsheimer Goldloch Riesling Auslese Germany, Nahe
95 points
Nose of honeysuckle, peaches and cream.

Pleasantly sweet taste with a nice balance and some good freshness to the bite.

The table enjoyed this wine
White
2008 Kistler Chardonnay Vine Hill Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
96 points
Nose of toasted hazelnut, apple, peach and lime. Wonderful rich creamy chardonnay with the right acidic balance that does not make it too thick. Smooth long length.

An excellent bottle and I will be back for more

Flight 2 - Burgundy & Rhone (2 notes)

A big debate about the Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle if it was flawed or not.

Red
2002 Serafin Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
90 points
Nose of red fruits with hints of strawberries.

Slightly hollow mid palate, medium to short length.
Red
1996 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
90 points
A lot of debate at the table on whether this wine was flawed or not and seeing by the tasting notes on Cellartracker a lot of people have the same experience. I think there is a lot of bottle variation with Paul Jaboulet and the '96 vintage seems to attract a lot of discussion especially.

For me the bottle was not flawed but it was very mature with a nose that only lasted about an hour and quite a mature claret palate.

Need to drink another bottle and see how it compares.

If you are holding drink up.

Flight 3 - Big deep reds (3 notes)

The '96s are really drinking lovely at the moment.

Red
1999 Peter Lehmann Shiraz Stonewell Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
94 points
Rich deep nose of red fruits, tar and spice with some menthol.

Smooth silky palate with a long finish

Excellent stuff
Red
1996 Château Cos d'Estournel France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
95 points
Big nose of Vanilla, cassis, tar, chocolate, leather and earth.
Silky smooth palate with a medium length
Excellent stuff
Red
1995 Château Trotanoy France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
93 points
Slight oxidation with a dark black core.
Nose of plums, tar, tobacco, spice and vanilla.
Smooth mouth with a medium finish

Closing

The white wines stole the night for me, in particular the Kistler Chardonnay and the Schlossgut Diel Dorsheimer Goldloch Riesling which went really well with the chinese food.
