Introduction

Another good tasting.

wine of the night was the Sena (21 points), followed by the Almaviva (18 points) and finally the Don Melchor (13 points).

Flight 1 (9 notes)

Red
2008 Cousiño-Macul Cabernet Sauvignon Antiguas Reservas Chile, Maipo Valley
88 points
A nice starter wine with cherry, spice, strawberry and minerals. Medium finish and pleasant.
Red
2008 Bodegas Salentein Malbec Killka Valle de Uco Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco
85 points
Not as good as the previous bottle. Spice, dust and light fruits. Simple and an everyday wine with burgers.
Red
2004 Achával-Ferrer Malbec Finca Mirador Argentina, Mendoza
93 points
Wonderful showing with dust, sour cherry, earth, mild oak and vanilla. Integrated tannins and medium to long finish. More secondary character at this stage. Decanted one hour.
Red
2007 Bodega Colomé Malbec Reserva Argentina, Valles Calchaquíes, Salta, Calchaquies
93 points
Dark. Wonderful wine that is young at this stage. Concentrated with blackberry, spice, bing cherries and earth. Long finish and a complex wine. This should improve over five years. 93-95.
Red
2005 Clos Apalta Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley, Apalta
94 points
Amazing wine and almost everyone loved this. Aromatic with blueberries, blackberries, floral, spice and coffee beans. Powerful on the palate and finish and long in length. This should improve over time and is still quite tannic. Drink now through 2018.
Red
2006 Viña Almaviva S.A. Almaviva Chile, Maipo Valley, Puente Alto
94 points
My wine of the night. Blueberries, floral, coffee and cassis. Super balanced and integrated tannins. No hard edges at all. Medium to long finish. Drink now or hold for a few years. One hour decant.
Red
2006 Seña Chile, Aconcagua Valley
93 points
Another great showing with blueberries, spice, tobacco, earth and dust. Very Bordeaux like and medium finish. Minerals come into play on this 30 second finish. Decanted 2 hours.
Red
2006 Concha y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Don Melchor Chile, Maipo Valley, Puente Alto
92 points
Really young. Decanted and Vinturi treated for 3 hours. Dark purple. Tannic with tobacco, red fruits, spice and floral notes. Medium to long finish. Hold for five years. 92-94.
Red
2006 Viña Siegel Gran Crucero Limited Edition Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley
91 points
Nice integrated wine with earth, coffee beans, blueberries and floral notes. Medium finish and drink now.
