Flight 1 (3 notes)

Red
1990 Château Mouton Rothschild France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
97 points
WOTN. Best nose I've ever experienced. Extreme burst of intense, complex aromas as soon as the wine hit the bottom of the decanter. Palate couldn't quite match the beauty and power of the nose, but still excellent. Developed well in the glass, giving complex aromas of bacon fat and violets. Drinking well now without need for long decant, but no reason to think it won't hold for more years.
Red
1995 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
93 points
Very closed nose, especially next to Mouton and 707. Margaret River dustiness. Overall somewhat astrigent and lacking generosity of fruit. Good structure and could clearly be aged a lot further. Overall a bit disappointing given the reputation and price, but could well improve with more time.
Red
1991 Penfolds Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 707 Australia, South Australia
95 points
Classic Penfolds nose - ripe fruit, american oak. A bit simple compared to Mouton, but delicious and enticing. Very intense and yummy flavours with terrific structure of smooth tannin. Amazing length. Drinking very well now.

Flight 2 (3 notes)

Red
1998 Château Léoville Barton France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
89 points
Nose still very closed. Opened a bit after decant and time in glass, but still a bit underwhelming. Fruit appeared a touch underripe and acid a bit out of balance. Reasonable length and ok complexity. A solid wine, but didn't stack up to it's companions on the night.
Red
1995 Voyager Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
93 points
Generous Margaret river nose of dark fruit, chalk, and mint. Good intense, warm rich fruit flavours with smooth tannin and bright acidity. Good length. Could age further, but drinking very well now. A very good value wine.
Red
1999 Petaluma Cabernet Merlot Coonawarra Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
92 points
Almost more Margaret River than Coonawarra on the nose. Rich and intense palate. Silky yet robust. Ok complexity and good length.
