Flight 1 - First Course (2 notes)

White
2009 Domaine des Malandes Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Beautiful nose, opening with some great floral aromas along with a bunch of crushed oyster shells, freshly squeezed lemon juice, a touch of red apple skins and some restrained tropical notes. A bit denser with more body on the palate, displaying toasted oak, spice, lots of honey, lemongrass, minerals, and some more floral characteristics. A bit of sweetness shows off the ripeness of the vintage, yet it's nicely balanced by the strong showing of acidity. Medium length finish ending on notes of caramel, ginger, and lemon. I really enjoyed this, and preferred this to the Servin Les Clos that was tasted along side. Fantastic

2009 Domaine Servin Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Huge nose displaying an abundance of charred oak, along with some fresh lemon juice, salty sea mist and limestone. Quite dense and ripe. More oak charges to the forefront on the palate, as well as some lemongrass, pears, limestone, and some spicy notes. Very rich and round on the palate, but with a good dose of acidity to help keep this restrained. Long finish ending on notes of oak and lemon juice. A nice wine, but I preferred the Malandes Vaudesir that was tasted in the same flight. Very good.

Flight 2 - Second Course (2 notes)

Red
2006 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
Gorgeous nose showing lots of black cherries up front, along with some spicy clove, black plums, a touch of blueberry, a sliver of fresh mint, and some nice floral aromas. Lots more black cherry come through on the palate, as well as some clove and black pepper spice, black plums, and a touch more of the mint that was evident on the nose. This is absolutely loaded with structure and displays great texture in the mouth. A strong showing of acidity balances the hefty tannins. Medium+ length finish ending on notes of black cherries and spice. This was showing very well today, and blew the '08 which was tasted along side out of the water. My red of the lunch. Fantastic.

2008 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
Very interesting nose at first on this which brought about a discussion on whether this was flawed or not, but consensus was that it wasn't. Tons of green aromas upfront, along with some blackberries, dark cherries, a hint of blueberries and a touch of tar. The green characteristic follows this through to the palate, along with some oak, black cherries, blackberries, spice, and some sage herbs to round this out. Lots of acidity complimented by a strong showing of gripping tannins. Long length finish ending on notes of black cherries and herbs. While this showed much better on the palate than the nose, the green character was distracting and was strongly overshadowed by the '06 tasted along side. Good+

Flight 3 - Third Course (2 notes)

Red
2008 Domaine d'Eugénie Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Very tight and shut down on the nose, yet creeping through was a strong amount of floral aromas, along with some black cherries, spicy black pepper, and a hint of tar. A bit more open on the palate, displaying tons of spicy black pepper, as well as black cherries, asphalt, and some tart cranberries. White this appears to be in a bit of an awkward stage to be tasting this, the fabulous texture on this wine was very evident, along with lots of drying tannins and a large amount of gripping acidity that cuts the finish. Long length finish ending on notes of black cherries and black pepper. I'd love to come back to taste this in 20 years, as this clearly has a lot of potential. Very good+
Red
2007 Domaine du Clos de Tart Clos de Tart France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru
This was quite shy and elegant on the nose, displaying aromas of dark dried fruits, some stewed cherries, and a touch of soy. More dark dried fruits carry through to the palate, along with some red cherries, tart blackberries, and toasted oak. Very rich and deep on the palate, with a moderate amount of both tannin and acidity. Medium+ length finish ending on notes of prunes and red cherries. Despite the weak vintage I admit I was expecting a bit more from this, but it appears to be in a bit of an awkward phase now. Still it's clearly a very nice wine. Very good

Flight 4 - Cheese Course (2 notes)

White
2009 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
This was a bit restrained on the nose at first, displaying some crushed sea shells, sea salt, ground almonds, some caramel, and a bit of creamy vanilla bean. Great texture and richness on the palate, showing ripe apples, sea salt, toasted oak, limestone, and some stone fruits. Love the balance on this, displaying a beautiful richness that is complimented by the tart acidity. Long length finish ending on notes of pear skins and lemon zest. A delicious wine. Fantastic.

2009 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Spectacular nose bursting with aromas of freshly squeezed lemon juice, tangerine zest, honeysuckle, salty crushed sea shells, and a layer of charred oak. This was so intense and vibrant on the nose it was hard to pull away from the glass. More charred oak appears on the palate, along with some Bosch pears, creamy lemon grass, limestone, lemon zest, and a hint of vanilla bean. This showed impeccable balance and texture, stacked on layer upon layer of flavor. Long length finish ending on notes of fresh lemon juice and charred oak. It's tough to find a fault in this wine, just sit back and enjoy. Outstanding.
