Flight 1 (2 notes)

Rosé - Sparkling
1996 Pol Roger Champagne Brut Rosé France, Champagne
Very brief notes. Orange in color. Quite young and intense, with a great backbone of acidity. Strawberry and yeasty on both the palate and nose. Should be superb with a few more years in the cellar. Very good+
White - Sparkling
1990 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon France, Champagne
Fantastic nose showing aromas of rich caramel, saline, lots of roasted almonds, and some yeast. Still quite intense and forward on the nose. The nuttiness carries through to the palate displaying fresh ground almonds, caramel, salty sea spray, some fresh lemon juice, lavender, and a hint of candied ginger. A great bite of acidity is complimented by a fine aggressive mousse. Long length finish ending on notes of tart lemon juice and caramel. This is drinking great right now, but is still very youthful and fresh, with great depth on the palate. No rush to drink these up. Fantastic.

White
2000 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
flawed
Unfortunately this bottle was off.
White
2006 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Big and rich on the nose, showing aromas of lemon, saline, lime zest, fresh orange juice, and a fair bit of oak. Quite a bit riper than I was expecting. Moving onto the palate, creamy oak comes to the forefront, followed by limestone minerality, lemon juice, and saline. A bit light in terms of acidity, but there is enough present to make this a pleasurable wine. This was tasted along side the '06 Valmur, and I really preferred this. Medium length finish ending on notes of oak and lemon zest. Very good.
White
2006 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Valmur France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Huge on the nose with tons of oak coming to the forefront, followed by aromas of lemon, slate, saline, along with some mild toasted nuts and floral notes. More charred oak showing strong on the palate, along with some tart lemon juice, a bit of orange zest, minerals, and creamy vanilla bean. Overall quite ripe and round on the palate. Medium- length finish ending on a note of oak. The acidity is a bit light, and I hate to say it, almost flabby. Nice, but I preferred the '06 Les Clos that was tasted along side. Good+

Flight 3 (4 notes)

Red
1990 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Fantastic nose, strutting aromas of fresh pomegranates, black currants, rich dark cherries and raspberries, kirsch, some herbal notes, and just the slightest hint of brett. More kirsch carries through on the palate, along with spicy clove and black pepper, tar, raspberries, black currants, rhubarb, and of course more pomegranate. Plenty of acidity which delivers a nice crisp bite, complimented by a fair bit of dry, gripping tannins. A long length finish ending on notes of raspberry, tar, and rhubarb. Fantastic balance, with plenty of fruit but far from being overbearing. While a true pleasure to drink at this stage, this was still quite young and has a long way to go. Outstanding.
Red
1990 Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Cannubi Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
flawed
Corked.
Red
1996 Tardieu-Laurent Cornas Vieilles Vignes France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
My backup bottle for the corked Barolo that I had originally planned to share. Quickly popped and thrown into a decanter, then poured. Great nose and open for business, showing tobacco, a bit of blueberry and cranberry, dark plums, a hint of herbs and fresh mint, along with the usual iron and bacon fat notes. Bright red cherries show well on the palate, along with red plums, more iron and bacon fat, along with a salty and tangy component thrown in. Moderate acidity, balanced well by the tannins that were evident yet not overbearing. Medium length finish ending on notes of iron and red plums. Drinking well right now, and while mature, still a bit on the young side. Very good+
Red
2001 Domaine des Lambrays Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Les Loups France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Tons of fresh red cherries on the nose, followed by lovely floral notes, along with some kirsch and licorice. Plenty more red cherries carry through onto the palate, as well kirsch and some herbal undertones. Nice balance, with lots of sharp acidity joined with a moderate amount of silky tannins. Medium+ length finish ending on notes of kirsch and bright red cherries. Obviously still very young, with a great silky texture on the palate and plenty of structure. Very good.

Flight 4 (1 note)

Red
1995 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Popped in the morning and slow-ox'd for 10 hours. Fantastic nose showing the typical Pauillac characteristics one would expect. Lots of pencil shavings, graphite, and rich cassis up front along with saddle leather, dark plums, some spicy clove and black pepper, and a touch of fresh mint. Plenty more lead pencil shavings and cassis carry through onto the palate, along with some red cherries, cigar box, spicy black pepper and clove, and a hint of tart rhubarb. Long length finish ending on notes of red cherries and cloves. Great balance, with lots of crisp acidity complimenting the dusty tannins. This clearly still needs plenty of time in the cellar, but it's far from a crime to open this up now with a long decant as it continues to creep toward it's prime drinking window. Fantastic.
