Flight 1 (7 notes)

Red
2009 Fausse Piste Syrah Riverrock Vineyard USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
94 points
Slightly floral on the nose. Amazing balance strikes right away in the mouth: fruit, acidity, mouthfeel all there. Blueberries, creme de violette. Very nice, the star of the show at the tasting.
Red
2009 Andrew Rich Pinot Noir Knife Edge USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
91 points
Soft, feminine style of Oregon Pinot. Cherries and cream in the mouth. Good acidity. Would be nicer with a roasted chicken than a steak.
Red
2010 Cameron Pinot Noir Arley's Leap USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
79 points
Medicinal aftertaste killed whatever subtlety was there. Possibly flawed bottle, though it was chosen and poured by the winemaker himself.
Red
2010 Cameron Pinot Noir Abbey Ridge USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
85 points
Not unpleasant as the Arley's was. JS scrunches her nose and says 'mushroomy'. Reminded me of a budget Oregon Pinot. Dissapointing.
Red
2010 Colene Clemens Pinot Noir Estate Reserve USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Chehalem Mountains
90 points
Very nice, balanced Oregon Pinot. The archetypal OP? Maybe. Very nice wine.
Red
2010 Thomas Pinot Noir Dundee Hills USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
91 points
Light bodied, yet also towards a Burgundian style with more eartiness/loaminess than typical OP. Almost too much acidity. Enjoyed and appreciated the quality of this wine, though not really our thing.
Red
2008 Andrew Rich Syrah Prometheus USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
90 points
Light, teasing on the nose. Heavier and more satisfying in the mouth. Raspberries. We enjoyed tasting Rich's 'feminine' style of Syrah next to the much more masculine Fausse Piste Riverrock, a good contrast and we enjoyed both.
