Introduction

Another elbows at dawn tasting...I ran around and tasted all I could which explains the variability of my note taking.

Flight 1 (14 notes)

White
2009 Holm Oak Riesling Australia, Tasmania, Tamar Valley
Lime over green apple, very slight spice. In the mouth tangy, medium acidity, green apple, long finish, balanced but a little simple
White
2009 Goaty Hill Riesling Australia, Tasmania, Tamar Valley
Lime but fruity and ripe. In the mouth it is peppery and tart, the apple fruit diminishes rapidly leaving a slightly metallic taste on the medium long finish
White
2009 Bream Creek Schönburger Australia, Tasmania, Southern Tasmania
Slightly funky lychee, rose and, err, rubber on the nose. In the mouth it is very fruity melon. Though it is dry it tastes like there may be a touch of residual sugar. Creamy texture and a medium long finish. Very nice.
White
2008 Bream Creek Riesling Australia, Tasmania
Lime and kerosene over mineral and stone. In the mouth tangy citrus and spice, little tannic grip in the mouth, medium finish
White
2008 Domaine A Lady A Australia, Tasmania, Coal River
Spice, green herbs, asparagus and toasty oak. In the mouth it is peppery and spicy, slightly fruity, dry with a medium finish
Red
2009 Holm Oak Pinot Noir Australia, Tasmania, Tamar Valley
Leather and spice over earth and red fruit. Very spicy over leather and slight fruit which gives way to peppery medium minus tannin which carries into a long finish. The lack of fruit is a concern
Red
2010 Goaty Hill Pinot Noir Australia, Tasmania, Tamar Valley
Red berries over perfume, slight sweet spice (cinnamon). Medium plus acid, dominates green and unripe fruit and spice, slight finish with slight tannic grip
Red
2009 Bream Creek Pinot Noir Australia, Tasmania, Southern Tasmania
Slight jammy red fruit compote over spice, especially white pepper. In the mouth it has very chalky and coarse tannin over slight red fruit and a short finish. Oh dear.
Red
2010 Glaetzer Dixon Family Winemakers Pinot Noir Avance Australia, Tasmania, Coal River
Slightly meaty over red fruit (cherry) and minerals – stone. In the mouth it has tangy red berry fruit, chewy tannin with hints of leather and a medium long and slightly warm finish. Hmm
Red
2010 Moorilla Pinot Noir Praxis Australia, Tasmania
Perfume, red fruit, spice, cedar and leather – quite developed nose for such a young wine. In the mouth there is sweet spice over slight light red fruit. Grippy tannin and medium plus acidity – the tannin carries on the long finish. Hmm.
Red
2007 Domaine A Pinot Noir Australia, Tasmania, Coal River
Medium minus intensity, slight leather, earth – wet mud – and slight bonfires/sulphur. Not much fruit on the nose but in the mouth there is slight red berry and cherry, leathery and grippy tannin and oak.
Red
2009 Home Hill Pinot Noir Australia, Tasmania
Red berry and earth over slight oak and spice. In the mouth the red berry dimishes to spice and medium plus tannin that carries on the medium finish.
Red
2005 Domaine A Cabernet Sauvignon Australia, Tasmania, Coal River
Concentrated jam, blackcurrant jelly block, that diminishes to farmyard and wet hay, horse piss, leather and cedar. In the mouth it’s yeast extract over bonfire, oak, slight fruit, hot alcohol, medium plus tannin, medium acid and a long hot finish that also carries sweet spice. Lovely.
Red
1999 Domaine A Cabernet Sauvignon Australia, Tasmania, Coal River
Slightly less concentrated jammy black fruit, farmyard, wet hay, sweaty horse, leather, cedar but also a savoury meatiness to the nose. In the mouth there is black fruit, warm alcohol, medium plus tannin, medium plus acid and a long warm finish that is balanced by the fruit and some sweet spice. Glorious.

Closing

Pretty good tasting. The Domaine A was the stand out producer and, of their wines, the Cab blend was the winner. And I did enjoy that Bream Creek Schonburger...
