Introduction

Had a great time talking with DP, atkinson_b2, and Old Doug online as we tasted the following wines. DP could only get a 2008 Coppermine Road whereas we had 2006 in the US. It was fun, with oskiwawa, floydtp, and BStump at BtR's house tasting with the big screeen TV showing live video chat from the others.

Flight 1 (3 notes)

We all agreed the d'arenburg was the better of the two (Stags Leap vs. d'arenburg). The FM series V beat the other two easily. My first tasting of FM wines, I am extremely happy as I have about a dozen FM wines in the cellar!

Red
2009 Stags' Leap Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley
88 points
2hr decant - 750ml; Aromas of typical napa cabernet fruit, black cherry, rasberry, and alcohol. Taste was soft for a 2009 napa cab -expected much stiffer tannins. Not much going on besides a bit of fruit and a bit of leather. Pretty simple and good for about $20, not $42.
Red
2006 d'Arenberg Cabernet Sauvignon The Coppermine Road Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale

2hr decant-750ml; tight aromas of dark fruit and a bit of spice; tastes of dark fruits, a bit high in fine tannins which dry the mouth, a bit acidic as well, some nice spice notes, and medium finish. Nice aussie wine, but I paid too much. Would buy again at $35-40. Drink now thru 5 yrs.

Red
2009 Force Majeure Cabernet Sauvignon Collaboration Series V Ciel du Cheval Vineyard USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Red Mountain

2hr decant-750ml; Aromas of dark fruit and spice; taste of black cherry, black rasberry, blueberry, with spices. Nicely integrated at this time, not hot or closed, nor too tannic or acidic. In a very good place. Buy now, drink now, or hold for a few yrs.

Closing

All in all, great fun - a bit difficult tasting at 9 am but had to do it as DP was in HK where it was 11pm. Would do it again!
