Rick & Laurance Marcum

Tasted April 27, 2013 by jinks with 264 views

Introduction

Although I would have either: A, chosen an older vintage, or B decanted these wines for at least a couple hours before tasting; nevertheless this was a very fun night of "camparing continents". Great KC strips on the grill and drank through this flight one at a time...

Flight 1 (4 notes)

Red
2005 Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon Lot No. 1 Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley
95 points
P&P - would have decanted if I were serving.
Nose is just plain fat and rich: dark berry fruit and topsoil. Awesome.
Fabulous palate - integrated, fine tannins; rich dark fruit notes, hitting all the right places.
With a rare KC strip this was pure decadence
Red
2005 Bodega Catena Zapata Nicolás Catena Zapata Argentina, Mendoza
94 points
P&P - I would have decanted.
dark purple with youthful edges.
Beautiful aromas of briar, cassis and light cigar smoke.
mouth was very tight at first but with time in the glass was quite nice - fruit and tannins, not a lot of complexity.
Medium/long finish.
I would drink this again in 8-10 years.
Red
2005 Bremer Family Claret USA, California, Napa Valley
93 points
P&P, I was not in charge of service!
Youthful, inky dark purple
Nose muted at first, but gave up nice berry fruit and molasses with time
Palate is right on. Fills the mouth completely with great balance, pleasant tannins.
Med finish.

Still a baby
