Introduction

Maciej had his wife randomly pick wines from his cellar and foil them up. He then brought us all to Bosk and we started ordering food and popping bottles…what a night :)
Tasting blind is so humbling, I love it.

Flight 1 (10 notes)

This has such a pure stemmy note with beef stock, soy cherry, spice, earth, minerals and such pure fruit. The palate is gorgeous with tart cherry, minerals, salt, soy , incense, nutmeg, strawberry and beef stock. I love the stemmy notes in this wine….obvious stem inclusion here. This finish is where this wine falls down a bit though…it is medium at best with moderate complexity.

1996 Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

This wine is great….pure tart red fruit on the nose in addition to spice, sap, pomegranate, violets, and strawberries. The palate has great structure….tonnes of stem inclusion with tart cherry, grapefruit, minerals, soy, red florals, nutmeg, cranberry, so spicy with lots of like left in it. Great long finish and seems like it could use a bit more time in the cellar…..definite pedigree here.

Nose of brown sugar, spice, pure cherry fruit, sap, more brown sugar…definitely has some age on it…some wet leaf and even a whif of oxidation followed by earth, black tea and dusty wet dog. The palate seems to be in better shape….very clean with some type of confected candy (red liquorice) strawberry, clove, minerals, black tea, brown sugar and animal fur. The finish is medium+

Nose of soy, dark fruit, ginger, spice, minerals, strawberry flowers, cherry, and watermelon. There was a subtle whif of garbage initially but it blew off leaving a very pretty nose. The palate similarly complex with strawberry, cherry, minerals, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, pomegranate and incense. Obvious stem inclusion. Finish was long and really integrated….very complex.
Red
1998 Faiveley Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

This wine starts with subtle oxidation and some swampy graphite notes. It seems quite developed with earth mushroom and metallic notes. This is off and I opted to pour it back in the bottle.

This wine was beautiful. Pure strawberry, cherry, minerals, spice, asian 5 spice, pomegranate, dark beefy character with iodine, stems, and saline notes. The palate is big but still very elegant with tart red fruit, spice, ginger, minerals, iodine, stems and saline notes. The finish is long and complex. Reference point burgundy

Another great wine….
Such an integrated and focused nose…..incense, spice, earth, red fruit, flowers combine in this splendid nee. The palate is svelte….pepper, spice, stemmy notes, cherry, and flowers….so complex and layered. Super long, integrated and complex. Wow. Love this wine

Cinnamon city on the nose mixed with dark fruit, cherry, minerals, indian spice and medicinal notes. The palate is very pretty with clove, nutmeg, beff, flowers, indian spice, minerals, and cherry. The finish is long. Great wine.

Definitely the most evolved of this flight with clove, minerals, sweet fruit…this is totally resolved and ready to drink. The palate shows pure tart fruit spice and cranberry and is mineral driven with a medium+ finish. I thought this was from the 1970s….

I wish I had more village burgundy like this…
So sweaty with tart red fruit, minerals, spice, exotic spice, flowers and tart berry fruit. The palate was so pure and super spicy with flowers, berry fruit, minerals…so complex and ready to drink. Long integrated finish.

This tasting showed again that burgundy ages well, even at the village level
