White
2012 Escapades Sémillon South Africa
91 points
Made from grapes sourced from very old vines, this semillon displays a nose reminiscent of a Graves white, with apricot, tropical fruits, herbs and oaky nuances. On the palate it is full-bodied and rich with a vibrant acidity to counter-balance its relatively high alcohol (14%) and a remarkably long aftertaste. Producer Vangelis Gerovassiliou thinks that this will reward several years of cellaring, and based on the structure of the wine and the way it evolved in the glass, I have every reason to believe him.
White
2012 Escapades Sauvignon Blanc South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch
89 points
Producer Vangelis Gerovassiliou does not hide his liking for New Zealand sauvignon blanc and this fact is clearly reflected in the character of this wine. Expressive nose of freshly cut grass, fig, goosberry and green pepper. Medium-bodied and vibrant with textbook freshness and crispy acidity. Med+ aftertaste. Very solid sb.

Red
2011 Escapades Pinotage South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch, Bottelary
87 points
Wine-maker Vangelis Gerovassiliou said during his presentation that his intention was to produce a fruity version of pinotage, something closer to a pinot noir than to most current offerings from this grape. The result is closer to a Beaujolais than a Cote d' Or. Medium to dark ruby. Fruity nose with loads of strawberry and red cherry. The usual animal funk associated with this variety is totally unnoticeable. Medium-bodied with very soft tannins, vibrant fruit, medium to high acidity and a medium aftertaste. A very pleasent red for immediate consumption, but rather pricey for what it is.

Red
2011 Boekenhoutskloof The Chocolate Block South Africa, Western Cape
90 points
Fairly dark ruby. Expressive, Rhone-like nose of mostly red berry fruit alongside spices like red and black pepper. Medium-bodied with nice freshness and balance. Long, somewhat bitter aftertaste. An extremely food-friendly red from one of South Africa's top producers.
