Flight 1 - Lunch at La Tour d'Argent (3 notes)

White
2002 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
flawed
Lighter nose, airy but tight. Hints of sea breeze and citrus. Lighter palate with medium acidity. Seems a bit clipped on the palate. After 15-20 minutes in the glass very, very slight notes of TCA started to emerge. The palate always seemed a touch off and eventually TCA took over. Too bad.
Red
1978 Bouchard Père et Fils Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Great old Burgundy nose mostly of tertiary and secondary aromas. Great sweetness and tobacco along with matured red fruits. A touch of dried leafs on finish because everything else was great and as you would expect. This went very well with the duck.
Red
1991 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
93 points
Beautiful nose of red fruits and spice. A darker and richer wine with fine tannins, good acidity and a nice mineral streak. A great wine that's still too young but gives tons of pleasure right now with its subtle nuances and layered complexity. This is drinking like its 10 years old. Outstanding. 93+

Flight 2 - Dinner at Willi's Wine Bar (4 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. J.L. Vergnon Eloquence France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
89 points
Young and fresh on the nose with soft citrus and orchard fruits with hints of yeast and dough. On the palate more citrus and green apple. Young and crisp and very BdB in style. Needs a few years. Very good. 89+
White
2007 François Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Valmur France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Lovely nose of lemon cream, sea breeze and saline. Soft entry with a rounder palate profile with the acidity seemingly hidden at the moment. This is really young and needs lots of air or time in the cellar. Not what I expected from this wine and seems a bit soft for a 2007. Judgement reserved.
Red
2000 Thierry Allemand Cornas Reynard France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
91 points
Great Northern Rhone nose with black olive tapenade, bell pepper and savory aromas. Nice acidity with fine and gritty tannins. This reminds me of a slightly more polished version of Clape. Drinking very well but should peak in about 5 years and coast for another 5+ after that. Excellent. 91+

This was quite similar to the 2000 but with more structure and a richer and darker profile. Right now, the 2000 is drinking better as it’s more mature and showing more development, but I think this 01 has more potential and should be a better wine in 5-7 years. Excellent. 90+
