Introduction

Dinner with Robert/Louie/Joe at Robert's house

Flight 1 - German Reislings (4 notes)

White - Off-dry
2002 Lucashof Forster Pechstein Riesling Spätlese Germany, Pfalz
A nice start to the evening. On the low end of the sweetness range for an Spatlese but nice structure and good finish.
White - Off-dry
2001 Joh. Jos. Prüm Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
WOW, what a change from the Spatlese. Thick and rich in the glass. Turning a darker shade of gold already. Flavors tended towards rich fruits such as peaches. Amazingly complex flavors and long finish.
White - Off-dry
2003 Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
great, but in a completely different way than the '01. Noticibly lighter color, more citrus on the nose and palate
White - Off-dry
2003 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Interesting follow-up. Had almost a carbonated ginger ale lightness to it. Light color in the glass. Sweeter, lighter and sharper on the palate. A clean short finish, not a lingerer. Karen and Carrie both agreed this was their favorite of the two Spatlese

Flight 2 - WA Cabs (5 notes)

Red
2001 Forgeron Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
First in the Cab flight, had the tough job of following the Reislings. Lots of tannins, somewhat bitter, least favorite of the cabs
Red
2001 Ross Andrew Winery Cabernet Sauvignon USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
a real surprise. Great concentration and weight, brooding, rich dark fruit.
Red
1998 Andrew Will Cabernet Sauvignon Seven Hills Vineyard USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
extra bottle age noticable after the two 01's. Lighter red fruit flavors, cherry and raspberry, spice. More subtle elegence than fruit bomb.

Purchased from winebid, so apparently lucky it wasn't cooked like some others.
Red
2001 Woodward Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon Old Vines USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
Very young and strong. bracing acidity and tannins. Needs more time but may turn into something special.
Red
2001 Andrew Will Cabernet Sauvignon Seven Hills Vineyard USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
memory fading fast at this point. Again, noticibly more balanced and approachable than the Woodward Canyon at this early point in their lives.

Flight 3 - Dessert (1 note)

White - Sweet/Dessert
1976 Château de Rayne-Vigneau France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
flawed
Corked - damn
