Flight 1 (9 notes)
White - Sparkling
1998 Ployez-Jacquemart Champagne Liesse d'Harbonville
92 points
Attractive and powerfully youthful nose of lemon, floral, toasty biscuit and light earth. Fantastic acidity drives this and the richness of the fruit is balanced well as a result. Delicious.
White
1998 Rockford Riesling Hand Picked Eden Valley

Pale colour. Toast, lime and talc with some floral notes as well. Taking on some honeyed character but it is still very youthful overall. Focussed and with good cut to it, this is drinking well but there is no great hurry.
White
2005 Louis Jadot Meursault 1er Cru Charmes
88 points
Oak, earth, toast and grapefruit. Good mouthfeel, it has good intensity though the oak is somewhat distracting as it comes in over the top of the fruit. Powerful but I'm not sure where it is going.
Red
2004 Isole e Olena Cepparello Toscana IGT
91 points
Cherry and chocolate, raspberry and some earthy iron notes. The palate is delicious - it is supple and bright but well balanced with the oak providing good structure. Will easily improve over the next 10 years.

1967 Château Margaux

Served blind. Leaf, vanilla bean, earth, leather and cedar aromas. Feels fully resolved on the palate, but still has a sense of delicate fruit weight to it. There is some acid that stretches the fruit out and I like the length to it. Obviously a high quality wine with quite a bit of age, the reveal is still a surprise as I did not expect it to be from such a "lesser" year. Thanks Fizz!
Red
1997 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Vigna di Pianrosso
94 points
Licorice, plum, spices and kirsch. Powerful fruit but has such good definition and texture to it. Effortlessly good.
Red
2003 Giuseppe Quintarelli Cà del Merlo Veneto IGT
91 points
Stem, graphite, raspberry and lead with a bit of alcohol lift to it. Mostly savoury on the palate but there is an appealing fruit richness that works in support. Good length and fine balance.

2006 Ridge Monte Bello

A treat to encounter this great wine twice in a short space of time. Graphite, tobacco, charcoal, chocolate and some floral notes. Dense fruit combines so well with gripping tannin structure that takes control and only grudgingly lets go as it moves into a long finish. Give it more time to show its very best.
White - Off-dry
2006 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Spätlese
91 points
Peach and pineapple with grapefruit and slate. Plenty of ripeness as opposite to outright sweetness on the palate and it retains a feeling of being light on its feet. There is also a sweet and sour element going on which I liked. At a stage in between youth and having development but still enjoyable now.
