Introduction

This was a nice gathering of eight with an interesting mix of wines. Our food tonight was quite impressive as well.

Flight 1 (10 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. André Clouet Champagne Grande Réserve Brut France, Champagne
90 points
Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. Very nice with lots of apple on the nose and just enough minerality. The palate is also filled with apple, delicate, hints of pear, light minerality. A very nice aperitif.

White - Sparkling
N.V. Franck Bonville Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée Les Belles Voyes France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
88 points
Medium gold color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. Nice fine bead, citrus, apple, on the nose. The palate has sour apple, tart, citrus, oxidative, some chalk, medium finish.
White
2007 Louis Latour Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
90 points
Light gold color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. This started out rather tight and gradually opened to show lemon, citrus, sea breeze minerality, subtle almond paste. The palate is light bodied, lemon, lemon oil, suave, decent acid and nice mineral character on a medium finish. Fairly young, but nice with some air. 90+pts.
Red
1999 Jean-Pierre Mugneret Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
91 points
Medium dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 75 minutes. This had a very nice nose with lots of lilac and floral character, earth, cherry, mineral. The palate has dry earth, minerals, cherries, some berry, and spices. This comes off quite nicely and is in a good place. 91+pts.
Red
2010 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
94 points
Medium dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 75 minutes. This was really stunning for both its accessibility and it sheer expression of fruit. Wow, this just has huge perfumed nose of pretty fruit, ripe raspberry and strawberry, cinnamon, and minerals. The palate is primary, but in such an expressive way that it is just beguiling, wonderful purity of fruit, strawberry, raspberry, oak spice, fresh, light minerality, and a very long finish. The tannins are sleek and well integrated already. It would be really interesting to see where this goes over the long haul, but its so ridiculously tasty now that you may regret opening one as you may find it most difficult to lay off them. WOTN.

Red
2000 Arcadian Pinot Noir Francesca's Cuvée USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
88 points
Very dark red color, somewhat murky. PNP, followed one glass over 3 hours plus. The nose is big and spicy, cedarbox, a bit savory, cranberry, cherry. The palate is medium full bodied, cranberry, sour cherry, currants, spicy, medium finish.
Red
2001 Bodegas Hermanos Peciña Rioja Señorío de P. Peciña Reserva Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
91 points
Very dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 60 minutes plus. Very nice Rioja nose with lots of fresh dill, vanilla, dark red fruits, kirsch, caramelized, nutty. The palate is medium full bodied, dill, cherry, black cherry, mineral, good acid and nice tannins, somewhat port like, medium plus finish. Still youthful and just hitting its window, give this an hour or two and you'll be nicely rewarded. 91+ to 92pts.

Red
1999 Domaine Berthoumieu Madiran Cuvée Charles de Batz France, Southwest France, Madiran
86 points
Purple red color. PNP, followed 1 glass over 3 hours. Deep dark black fruit on the nose. Black, brooding fruits on the full bodied, rustic palate, oak, tart, very firm grippy tannins. I'm not sure whether the tannins will ever loosen their firm hold here.
Red
2003 Château Meyney France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
90 points
Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour plus. This was in a good spot, the nose has an earthy perfume, leather, cassis, oak. The palate is full with cassis, blackberry, oak, spice and just a bit of sharp edge on the medium plus finish. Nice wine, nice QPR.
White - Sweet/Dessert
1997 René Renou Bonnezeaux Cuvée Anne France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Bonnezeaux
91 points
Light amber color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. This was a nice bottle in good shape. The nose has nice pear, poached peach, melon and hints of apricot. The palate is consistent and adds some baked apple, decent acid, light and delicate with a lingering finish.
