Introduction
Gathered for our annual tasting of Oregon Pinots.
Flight 1 (14 notes)
Red
2012 Archery Summit Pinot Noir Whole Cluster Cuvée
fairly dark scarlet. Very fresh red fruits and spice up front. Palate a bit more elegant
Red
2011 Van Duzer Pinot Noir Alchemy
ruby garnet spicy nose, almost sage, nice acidity but finishes a bit thin.
Red
2011 Shea Wine Cellars Pinot Noir Homer Shea Vineyard
served a bit warm which severely detracted at first. But with some air and swirling showed some nice dark blue fruits and some near mocha and caramel notes. One of the more fascinating wines of the tasting
Red
2011 Shea Wine Cellars Pinot Noir Estate Shea Vineyard
Medium ruby, fairly straight-forward pinot fruit
Red
2012 La Crema Pinot Noir Willamette Valley
medium light scarlet, fairly fruit driven flavors. fairly simple, but nice.
Red
2010 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir
fairly pale watermelon colored. Sweaty nose and perhaps a hint of brett with a nice spicy finish.
Red
2009 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir Laurène
pale garnet. again some sweaty aromas with more sweet red fruits on the palate

Red
2009 Alexana Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard
Medium ruby. Almost a hint of spritz. A bit hot which detracts
Red
2009 Alexana Pinot Noir Revana Vineyard
Medium ruby, sweet red fruit and plum. 15.2% and hides it better than the Alexana Shea
Red
2008 Elk Cove Vineyards Pinot Noir La Bohème
rather shy nose. On the palate a lot more dark blue fruits than the others with almost a hint of menthol
Red
2008 Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve
darker ruby colored with a nice spicy nose, red berry fruit and a hint of cinnamon.

Red
2011 Soter Pinot Noir Mineral Springs Ranch
Very interesting nose with some orange peel, hint of maple and tart cherry flavors.
Red
2008 Beacon Hill Estate Pinot Noir
tasted at our annual Oregon Pinot tasting last year, again this had an off-putting chemical flavor that detracted for me.
Red
2005 Moillard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts
fairly restrained nose at first. more earthy cherry flavors with time. Seems a bit more closed than prior tastings. Would hold.
Closing
Similar to our prior Oregon tastings, there seemed to be a fairly tight grouping quality wise. The groups WOTN was the 2011 Soter Pinot Noir Mineral Springs Ranch, largely based on some of the more interesting aromatics. Other favorites included the 2010 Domain Drouhin, the 09 Drouhin and the Shea Homer. The Vosne Romanee was served blind and obviously a Burgundy, though further identification seemed hampered by the fairly light aromatics today.
