Flight 1 - 2012 Chablis (4 notes)

White
2012 Moreau-Naudet & Fils Chablis France, Burgundy, Chablis
86 points
Sweet oak, ripe orange and lemon, nice balance between a creaminesas and minerals, but not especially concentrated and turns a little soft in the midpalate. Not bad.
White
2012 Caves Duplessis Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
89 points
Yellow citrus and wet pavement on the nose, turning riper and more peachy with air. Less upfront fruit here but more depth on the attack, with nice salty minerality, and a twinge of alcohol on the finish as it warms up. Better colder, and did not improve with air, but I quite liked this.
White
2012 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
84 points
Lime and green apple with an odd soapy, floral funk. Light and tart, simple, lacking depth, a bit boring. Never been impressed with this producer.
White
2012 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
90 points
Lemon, yellow apple, sea breeze, honeydew, more powerful and direct here, with nice salty minerals. Really needs air, where it fills out, adding power and depth. It was the only wine in the flgiht that significantly improved with aeration. My #2 at first, #1 with air; the group had it 4th.

Flight 2 - Older Chablis (4 notes)

White
2002 Daniel-Etienne Defaix Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
82 points
The nose is all buttered popcorn. The palate has some acid and minerals, but this is still too buttery. Blech.
White
2005 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
83 points
Very funky/poopy/old wood nose, almost like brett, that mars the lemon/pink grapefruit nose, which is strange because IIRC Louis Michel is all stainless steel. The palate is better, some buttery development, ok acidity, kind of boring. Another disappointing Louis Michel.
White
2005 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
88 points
Fleshy peach fruit, some honey and pie crust, quite dense and mineral, a little flat, could use more acidity? Gets a little alcoholic and spiky as it warms up. Good but shows the problematic side of the ripe 05 vintage character, it would be better if it were a touch less ripe and alcoholic.

White
2005 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
91 points
Not poxed at all. Slight reduction that blows off to reveal a lovely, fresh nose of green apple with a hint of pineapple, a drizzle of honey, a whiff of macadamia, and some oyster blood and hay. More linear and Chablis-esque, comes together nicely with air showing good powerful mineral character, good length. Excellent and very Chablis, the grand cru quality stands out in this lineup. Easy pick for me as WOTN.
