Introduction

We didn't need to beware the Ides of March tonight, even suffering through mostly Villages wine. Ok, great Villages wine.

Flight 1 (6 notes)

White
2004 Morey-Blanc Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
91 points
Apple and lemon with good concentration and lots of energy. Tasty and powerful, but I'd like a like more nuance here. Good now, perhaps some slight upside going forward.
Red
1990 Maison Leroy Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
90 points
Started with a slightly moldy character when poured and again when re-poured. Fortunately that musty note dissipated with 10 minutes in glass each time. I think that problem was bottle specific due to leakage and a soaked through cork, with a moldy smell even coming through the wax.

Once past that mold, there was a lot of dense and meaty black fruit coming across as very ripe with moderate structure. Nicely mature. Very meaty, tasty and fun, even if slightly one dimensional. Good now, although possibly better a few years back given the wine's intense ripeness.
Red
1991 Domaine Leroy Vosne-Romanée Les Genaivrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
88 points
I brought this tonight and was disappointed overall. Charming and perfumed aromas were very good. Palate was slightly dull and moderately interesting, at best. Sorry, guys.
Red
1997 Domaine Leroy Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Vignerondes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
85 points
Ripe aromas come across as leathery and tired with slightly burnt spice. Similar flavors with good fruit concentration, just slightly tired. Revisited several times over several hours, and while it changed with more air, it never really became more interesting.
Red
2007 Domaine Leroy Nuits St. Georges Aux Allots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
91 points
At that fun intersection of Vosne and NSG character with a fun dollop of Leroy clearly in the mix. Black fruit with some roasted meat notes, with elegant and slightly sweet spice. Moderate depth and length. Fun and accessible right now, with enough concentration to continue to evolve and remain interesting for another decade+.
Red
2005 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Asianspice correctly said I'd think this wine tough to assess. Backward fruit start-to-finish with excellent concentration. There wasn't a lot of spice to start, but it was really starting to emerge once open 2 hours. Would clearly have benefited from an hour in a decanter. Not necessarily a lot of easy pleasure right now, but I think this has 92 point potential, but wait to 2022-2035.
