Flight 1 (14 notes)

White
2010 Les Dolomies Savagnin Côtes du Jura En Rolion France, Jura, Côtes du Jura
89 points
Light gold colour. Herb, lemon, pine and a touch of oxidation. Quite sweet and ripe in style but it does show some restraint with good acidity and that oxidative note helping to give a point of interest besides the fruit.
White - Sparkling
2008 Marcel Cabelier Crémant du Jura France, Jura, Crémant du Jura
88 points
Straw, apple, honey and musk. Nice body, the fruit feels like it has rounded out from the age. Medium length, drinking well now.
White
2010 J.L. Chave Sélection Hermitage Blanche France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
90 points
Pineapple, graphite and pear. Some glycerol to the mouth feel, there is good texture sitting behind it and the richness of the fruit is reined in by good acidity. Definitely a wine that benefits from having some food served with it.
White
2013 Tony Bornard Le Chardo Gai France, Vin de France
85 points
Earth and lemon on the nose. The palate is quite astringent and while it does show more interest than the nose, it doesn't feels like it has the depth or structure to develop much further.
White
2010 Tissot (Bénédicte et Stéphane / André et Mireille) Arbois Les Graviers France, Jura, Arbois
89 points
Quite oxidative in style, plus musk, lemon, sea spray and apple. Good minerality with light richness to the fruit. A good saline and element lends the wine a feeling of drive and the acidity assists. Feels like it is in a good spot for drinking now, but I wouldn't be surprised if it continues well over the next few years.
White - Off-dry
2008 Mac Forbes Riesling Tradition Australia, Victoria, Strathbogie Ranges
88 points
Kerosene, honey, peach and white floral notes. Some phenolic grip and texture on the palate, this wine definitely has some elements of interest. Not overly old but does show some signs of age - drink in the next few years.
Red
2011 Between Five Bells Red Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Geelong
87 points
Stalk, tobacco, autumn leaves and some cherry. Definitely shows the sappy, stalky notes on the palate too, with a touch of astringency toward the finish. Has a great deal of interest and may show better in isolation rather than alongside other wines.
Red
2009 Glaetzer Dixon Family Winemakers Shiraz Mon Pere Australia, Tasmania, Coal River
88 points
Redcurrant, cherry, spice and graphite. Good length and well balanced - the palate is fresh and a swathe of red fruit carries well. With 3-4 more years in bottle I think this will start to show its best.
Red
2011 Passionvale Shiraz Steven Vineyard Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
90 points
Blind. Violet, white pepper, smoke, olives and a tropical fruit note. Good texture and tannin, with a mineral core that works well with the sweet fruit. Very good.
Red
2013 Passionvale Shiraz Steven Vineyard Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
flawed
Blind. Too dirty in style for me and short on the palate.
Red
2014 Passionvale Shiraz Steven Vineyard Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
87 points
Blind. Ash, bubblegum, raspberry and mint. Sweet fruited palate, that bubblegum character seems to persist on the palate as well. Has interest but a little all over the place at the moment. Hope to see it with some more time to settle down.
Red
2011 Coudert Fleurie Clos de la Roilette Griffe du Marquis France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Fleurie
89 points
Blind. Stems, spice, light florals and cherry. Quite fresh and bright fruit on the palate with tannic grip and plenty of acidity. Probably a little too young for the moment, I'd love to see this in another 5-10 years.
Red
2013 S.C. Pannell Syrah Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
87 points
Blind. Stemmy, blueberry and soapy floral notes. Hard on the palate, the fruit sweetness is restrained but the wine as a whole doesn't really feel in sync to me. Even blind I really struggle to find the appeal of this producers wines more often than not.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2006 Domaine des Baumard Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru
92 points
Half bottle. Floral, vanilla, woody spices and a little herbal note. Moderate sweetness on the palate, with nice bright fruit and acidity keeping things fresh and balanced. Has the structure and fruit to age with considerable grace.
