A few 1982 Bordeaux Notes
Tasted May 16, 2007 by Russell Faulkner with 657 views
Introduction
A few late notes from my trip to New York in April.
All wines taken over dinner, not blind, generally not decanted.
Flight 1 (12 notes)
White - Sparkling
N.V. Henriot Champagne Blanc Souverain Brut Pur Chardonnay
Very light style, full of vigour, light BdB style, interesting but no lasting impressions.
Red
1982 Château Pavie
86 points
Light rim, now showing age, dusty, better on palate, light but with offputting dry metal tannin.
Red
1982 Château Le Bon Pasteur
90 points
Lovely dry perfume, fleshy with full acidity, very plummy but not sweet, somethign a bit odd on the nose though, dough?
Red
1982 Château Figeac
90 points
Dry woody nose, fresh, a hint of mushroom, very dense still, acidity too strong on finish?
Red
1982 Château Magdelaine
91 points
Gentle, very fruity, no sign of age, a bit simple but strong persistent fruit, tannins a bit closed on finish.
Red
1982 Château Sociando-Mallet
89 points
Obvious move to the left bank... Cedar and smoky ripe fruit, all present and correct but not special, short astringent tannin on finish. Prefer the 1985 and 1986.
Red
1982 Château Léoville Poyferré
93 points
Very bright nose, riper than the Barton, lighter tannins, ready.
Red
1982 Château Léoville Barton
94 points
Very full, perfumed and dense wine, great balance, perhaps just hitting its stride, or maybe still not there.
Red
1982 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste
92 points
A bit green, but not strongly so, light style, but with big tannin behind.
Red
1982 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron
92 points
Just beautiful on the nose, but tannins hit the midpalate quite harshly.
Red
1982 Château Lynch-Bages
94 points
Spicy rich sweet nose, drinking so well now, but tannins are very soft already, maybe this is not one for the long haul?
