1934 Château Haut-Bailly
93 points
From a time when Haut-Bailly was more expensive than Haut-Brion, this was showing quite well (although no comparison to the 1934 HB). Rather light, quite intense acidity, figs and with time adds weight and developed quite nicely
Flight 3 (3 notes)
Red
1950 Château La Mission Haut-Brion
98 points
Grilled porcini mushrooms, black tea, extremely dense and rich. reminds me of the 1934 but on steroids (well the 1934 is already pretty much on steroids, so go figure) super Long, amazingly rich, jus plain awesome!
Red
1953 Château Margaux
96 points
Soy-sauce, liquid butter, rock candy, beautiful length just great! It's crazy that this wine, as great as it was, was still the 'loser' of the flight... that says something about this tasting... blessed to be able to be part of it. Thanks Jürg!!
Red
1953 Château Ausone
97 points
Nuts, leather, sweetness, very dense and warm wine. Opulence that just oozes right bank. Well, I just love this!!
Flight 4 (3 notes)
Red
1929 Château Gruaud Larose
96 points
Red berries, very elegant with quite a strong acidity, but nevertheless the wine manages to be balanced. Great wine, very highly rated but not in that muscular, rich, powerful way than the other wines tasted tonight
Red
1929 Château Latour Grand Vin
94 points
Leather, black berries, nose and palate do not speak the same language but it still somehow seems to work. Great wine, but not among the greatest 1929s
Red
1929 Château Haut-Brion
100 points
Well hello, I'm in heaven!!!
This wine defies the 100 Point scale. It just blew me away. I knew about the 1929 having rated it 99 Points out of a normal bottle two years ago, but this wine right here?? Just knocked me right out! Again pitch black, enormously rich, rock candy, black tea, gigantic length and never ending aftertaste. This is what old wines are all about! WORLD CLASS!

1950 Château Haut-Brion
95 points
Malt, walnut, sweetness, starts with a medium Body and length but develops with time in the glass and gets richer and longer, good stuff!
Red
1955 Château Haut-Brion
92 points
This was the most "classic mature claret" tasting wine of the night: Cigar box, some ash, some Wood nice tobacco, leather and stable notes. Classic
Red
1961 Château Haut-Brion
97 points
This is just different. In the nose you would say tawny, that's how sweet it is. Cherry compote, Pumpernickel, black tea. Classic 1961 with this extreme ripeness and sweetness and extraordinary power. Well the wine was amazing and most People scored it 100. I can't really tell you why I didn't, well I just didn't, but it is still amongst the 25 highest rated wines of all times for me, so that's that, but comparing it to the 1929 I just felt that the extreme sweetness was somewhat overpowering to give it a perfect score.

1924 Château Haut-Brion
92 points
The only wine that somewhat fell apart after 15 minutes in the glass. But before that it had some vanilla, leather, slightly medicinal notes, but very enjoyable
Red
1974 Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard
100 points
Together with the 1929 it was the WOTN for me. From another planet, but equally amazing. This wine was firing on all cylinders. Eucalyptus, Petrol, Werther's cassis candy, infinitely long aftertaste and with an otherworldly power this is rightly a california legend and the greatest american wine that I have ever tasted. Kudos!
Red
1985 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia
95 points
Dark berries, quite fresh and still some Tannin left, licorice and nice sweetness. All in all a very good wine, but it stood absolutely no Chance against the Martha's 1974 "next door"
Flight 7 (3 notes)
White - Sweet/Dessert
1920 Château Guiraud
97 points
Orange peel, rock candy, creme brulee, very Long and opulent. This wine is stunning!
Flight 8 (3 notes)
White - Sweet/Dessert
1945 Château La Tour Blanche Sauternes
90 points
Very elegant, caramel, nice length, some creme brulee, still not showing any sign of Age, but lacking a bit the depth to be a great sauternes
White - Sweet/Dessert
1950 Château Coutet Barsac
96 points
Very very sweet, dense, opulent, butterscotch and vanilla. What a Beauty!
