Flight 1 (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
1988 Drappier Champagne Carte d'Or Brut France, Champagne
This was quite nice at first with lively acidity and mature Champagne notes but it faded after some time in the glass and was completely dominated by the 88 Krug that was served along with it.
White - Sparkling
1988 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut France, Champagne
Mature and classic Krug-y notes on the nose but this was fresh and energetic on the palate with beautiful weight and lively acidity. I’m not sure if this can get any better but it’s certainly close to its peak and should cruise here for a decade or two. Spectacular bottle.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

Red
1997 Domaine Leroy Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
See Blair’s 5/28/2014 note. A good but not perfect bottle for me.

Red
1997 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
This needed a lot of air. At first wasn't showing much but after an hour or two it started to show some lovely aromas that you expect from a La Mouline but overall it never really hit the highs. I should know better than to open any La La younger than 25 years.

Flight 3 (1 note)

White
2008 Domaine Ramonet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
The oak on this bottle came across as quite heavy handed compared to other 08 Ramonet I’ve had but with time in the glass the classic mint shown through along with lime citrus and hints of earth. On the palate this was full and dense but with excellent bounce and energy. This should have gotten an hour or two in the decanter. The next day this was substantially better. Excellent.
