Flight 1 (9 notes)

Red
2009 Kutch Pinot Noir Anderson Valley USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley
86 points
Tasting, brief note. Good fruit concentration but all candied cherry, perhaps a little too much of the candied, not enough of the cherry.
Red
2009 Rhys Pinot Noir Bearwallow Vineyard USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley
90 points
Tasting, brief note. Wonderful nose with red cherry and berry and enticing baking spice. Similar flavors are certainly good, just slightly less exciting. Good concentration. An odd bitter finish for now, I'd cellar this slightly longer.
Red
2004 Domaine Anne Gros Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
90 points
Tasting, brief note. Fully mature red cherry aromas with modest spice to start, more robust spice when re-tasted 30 minutes later. The most faint green notes, which didn't bother me at all. Moderate density, certainly not at a Grand Cru level, and also aging faster than Grand Cru at 12 yo, but all that is 2004.
Red
1985 Penfolds Bin 389 Australia, South Australia
91 points
Tasting, brief note. A highlight from today. Maturing black fruit aromas with eucalyptus, tar and cocoa. Very elegant. Slightly more advanced flavors, still very good and elegant but less alluring . Time to enjoy.
Red
2014 Pierre Gonon St. Joseph France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph
Tasting, brief note. Like being smacked upside the head with all primary fruit, and roast meat covered in olive tapenade. Juicy with moderately concentrated fruit, then very tannic middle to finish. I expect/ think there is plenty of potential, 2022 forward?
Red
2010 Guillaume Gilles Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
92 points
Tasting, brief note. Black plum and cherry with dark roast coffee and black pepper. Very concentrated aromas I adored, and still wonderful flavors even if less robust. Very intriguing with medium-term potential I can truly appreciate.
Red
1997 Hospices de Beaune Corton-Cuvée Docteur Peste Prosper Maufoux France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Labeled "Foster Flynt Selection." Tasting, brief note. Ripe black fruit aromas with good concentration and nicely mature. Palate more mature, seemingly a little more roasted as well, so less enjoyable. Still a good enough glass of wine.
White
2013 Francois Carillon Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
90 points
Tasting, brief note. Very good nose with ripe orchard fruit and some new oak spice close to fully integrated. Forward fruit flavors as well with good balance, moderate weight. Better in a year or two, then cellarworthy for the mid-term.
White
2012 Edmond Vatan Sancerre Clos la Néore France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
Tasting, brief note. Great nose, then closed palate with great concentration that hints at this wine's excellent 92-93 point potential, even if not lots of pleasure on the taste buds right now.
