2010 Napa Valley Night

Lincoln Square Steaks, NYC

Tasted February 22, 2017 by SMHalps with 243 views

Introduction

Ten people at a NYC steakhouse. 1 white wine, 5 red wines. The reds were all opened, but not decanted, 45 minutes before we had the first red wine. The white was chilled, then popped and poured.
We all ordered steaks. And after the 2013 Shafer Chardonnay Red Shoulder Ranch, we had, in order...

2010 St. Supery Merlot Rutherford, 2010 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Eloge, 2010 Lewelling Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Wright, 2010 Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, and the 2010 Beau Vigne Cabernet Sauvignon Romeo.

We had different glasses for each wine, and usually poured 2 at once.

My final bottle. Too bad, as I enjoyed everyone of them. No changes to my previous notes. Chilled, popped and poured at a restaurant.

Popped and poured in a restaurant. Much more Merlot character than my first bottle a few years ago. Very enjoyable. Not as big as the Cabernets we had at the same meal, but still a big full mouthfeel. Really nice wine for the $40 I paid.

Popped and poured in a restaurant, and allowed to sit for 45 minutes before we drank it. A nice blend, the Cab Franc portion made it stand out and taste lighter than the Cab Sauvs we had. Very enjoyable.

Opened and allowed to sit in the bottle for about 50 minutes before we poured it. Big nose, long finish. Tasted the vanilla/oak and the heaviness of wine led most of my group to ID as a 15+% alcohol. But it wasn't hot. Probably the group favorite.

Popped and poured in a restaurant. It had such a heavy mouthfeel, that it almost reminded me of a Port. Notes of vanilla, mocha, and leather. Very enjoyable, but compared to the Lewelling we had alongside it, it was definitely a notch less impressive (than the Lewelling).
Red
2010 Beau Vigne Cabernet Sauvignon Romeo USA, California, Napa Valley

Compared to the other Cabernet Sauvignon wines we had, this one had a different fruit profile. More dark cherry and maybe some blueberry (almost WA state blueberry) than the others. That said, everyone really enjoyed it. Long finish. Great nose.

Closing

Everyone loved the Shafer Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay. The WOTN was the Lewelling, with the Beau Vigne Romeo just behind it in 2nd place. No real last place wine as everyone enjoyed all the wines.
