Flight 1 (5 notes)

White
2016 Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
N: Fragrantly grassy with perhaps a TOUCH of cat pee

P: Med, poss MF, body; Rndish entry with almost swtish frt & a slight spritz; Balanced, lingering, slightly tangy, VERY slightly swt finish. Very pleasant & could well improve for 6 mos or so. 90 pts WE [This vendor's $8.95 seems about as good as one will find!]
White
2016 Union de Productores Estacion por venir Mexico, Baja California, Valle de Guadalupe
N: Fragrant note of grass & apples; Seems crisp

P: Med, poss LM, body; Nice frt on front with balancing acidity; LONG, very slightly tangy finish; Very nicely made for quaffing/lighter fare, probably through '19. A strong pt: better on finish than entry! Nonetheless, IMO @ $11.95 the competition is stiff. :(
Red
2007 Elvi Wines Ribera del Júcar Ness Spain, Castilla-La Mancha, Ribera del Júcar
39% Merlot, 32% Bobal, 25% Tempranillo, & 4% C.S.

N: Initial funk & earthiness at least somewhat blowing off to jam; poss V.A.?

P: Med, poss LM, body; Decent frt on front with some structure mid palate, this slowly resolving into a long, VERY slightly bitter finish; Has plateaued, likely tiring, but should hold through '18, I'd imagine. OUTSTANDING QPR @ this vendor's $3.95 [closeout?]!

Red
2013 Cherry Pie (Hundred Acre) Pinot Noir Cherry Tart USA, California
N: Jammy notes with CC coast chars underneath, berries coming forward as it opens

P: Med, poss MF, body; Rndish entry with almost swtish frt; Nicely balanced, fairly seamless, & LONG, though IMO lacking a but in oomph. MAY improve for 6 mos or so, then drink into '19. [This vendor's $15.95 would seem to be VERY competitive!] 87 pts WS & WE
Red
2014 McPherson Wines MWC Shiraz Mourvèdre Australia, Victoria, Central Victoria
93% Shiraz 5% Mourvedre, & 2% Viognier; 14% ABV

N: Closed/muted; some jammy berries with spice, poss floral?

P: Med body; Almost swtish frt on front met by some astringency mid-palate, this quite resolving by the LONG, very slightly tangy/spicy finish. Seems to overachieve @ this vendor's $11.95 price pt! Could well improve over the next yr, then drink nicely into 2020! (For drinking RIGHT now, a touch on the firm side.) 92 pts Wine & Spirits (& 1 of their 100 Great Buys?), 90 pts James Halliday’s 2016 Wine Companion, + numerous medals in AU wine judgings
