Community Tasting Notes 3

  • srh Likes this wine:

    February 13, 2017 - Private Preserve after Day 1

    39% Merlot, 32% Bobal, 25% Tempranillo, & 4% C.S.; 13.5% ABV

N: Mushrooms, forest floor, choc coming forward over time, along with notes of oranges? Slight notes of V.A.? Also, some browning on the rim

P: MF body; Decent frt on the front evolves into a lingering, slightly spicy, VERY slightly astringent finish. The nice acidity should still make this viable with many entrees. // Day 2: The P's astringency has backed off. Nonetheless, *I* liked it > my 2 fellow tasters.

    February 11, 2017 - Sat, 2/11/17, $2 Tasting (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): 39% Merlot, 32% Bobal, 25% Tempranillo, & 4% C.S.

N: Initial funk & earthiness at least somewhat blowing off to jam; poss V.A.?

P: Med, poss LM, body; Decent frt on front with some structure mid palate, this slowly resolving into a long, VERY slightly bitter finish; Has plateaued, likely tiring, but should hold through '18, I'd imagine. OUTSTANDING QPR @ this vendor's $3.95 [closeout?]!

January 29, 2011 - The nose on this garnet to black colored wine was rich with cedar, vanilla, coffee, dirt/bramble, blackberry, black cherry, currant, plum, and mint/eucalyptus. The mouth on this medium to full bodied wine initially showed bubbles, which was a bit offsetting, over time it dissipated, along with blackberry, black cherry, currant, and bramble. The mid palate was bracing with acid, a rich mouth, oak, and spice. The finish was long, with nice spice, black cherry, black currant, oak, and vanilla.
