Flight 1 (1 note)
91 points
Nicely pale rosé. Crisp. Quite yeasty on the nose until it lifts. Cones in to its own with food but quite invigorating beforehand. Nuanced and almost delicate. Soft red fruit. Not a muscular or confected rosé — lots of interest. Lovely. ****
Flight 2 (2 notes)
White
2011 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet

Pale straw. Relatively clean on the nose initially before filling out after 30 mins or so. Smells like proper white burgundy. Real power on the attack. Very long. Serious weight. Lots up frontal lower by a bit of a dip on the mid palate, and then it powers on through the finish tape and keeps going. Plenty of Wright and power, and even line, but just lacks a little energy. **** to ****1/2
White
1992 Château Laville Haut-Brion Blanc

Light to mid gold. A slightly tired waxy, lanolin nose but far more with it on the palate. A little beeswax and furniture polish on the nose too. With air it develops a touch of toffee and bruised apple. Splendid with food. A lip-smacking quality here withou any sweetness. (*)***
Flight 3 (4 notes)
Red
2002 Domaine de la Vougeraie Charmes-Chambertin Les Mazoyeres
92 points
Quite a meaty and evolved nose. Rich and meaty with a core of dark sweet fruit. A dark and luxurious quality to the fruit. A density. ****
Red
2001 Domaine Fourrier Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Clos Sorbes Vieille Vigne
91 points
Nicely evolved, mushroom and truffle nose. Sweet fruit. Quite relaxed on the attack with a Morey spine on the finish. Becomes more evolved with air to reveal a touch of tobacco on the nose. Bright and a little high-toned. Almost too relaxed - starts to show a touch of Bual. Very drinkable though and probably better a little cooler out of larger glasses. Still ****
Red
1998 Domaine Robert Arnoux / Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots
95 points
Served a little warmer than it should be, and started off a little mute on the nose. Just gorgeous though. Beautifully rich and rounded on the attack. Silky-textured weight. Real luxe. Just lovely. Evaporated far too quickly. *****
Red
1999 Domaine Maume Mazis-Chambertin
93 points
Magnum. Quite plush and pure on the nose. Very well behaved — not the usual Maume sauvage quality. Taut and compact — possibly vintage but certainly magnum. Plenty of muscle. A sweetness to the fruit starts to develop on the finish. Just a hint of Maume developing with air, but still restrained. Needs a decade in magnum. Lovely though. ****

Red
1997 Château Rayas Châteauneuf-du-Pape Reserve

Ooh, hello! Sweet, sexy, floaty, ethereal yet substantial. Mature burgundy on steroids. Gorgeous. ****1/2
Red
1989 Château Lynch-Bages
95 points
Deep ruby with a splodge of garnet. Rich nose but a touch of green on the nose in an 85 rather than 89 mould. Fresh. Sweet-fruited with a touch of green pepper. Sweet, long, cedary. Classic left bank claret. Really super. *****

Half. Very medicinal botrytis nose. Fairly sweet, slightly tropical. A bit of spice to the sweetness. Very decent. ***1/2
White - Sweet/Dessert
2002 Künstler Hochheimer Hölle Riesling Eiswein

Half. Coppery bronze. Immensely sweet but cut through with an electric acidity that gives real zing. A real pick me up. Orange, apricot and barley sugar flavours, but this is all about the lip-smacking sweetness delivered on a razor blade. *****
