Flight 1 (15 notes)

White - Sparkling
2009 Pierre Péters Champagne Grand Cru L'Etonnant Monsieur Victor France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
93 points
Solera going back to 1988, 50% Les Chetillons from 2009 . Golden coloured. Bready, sea spray, ginger, lemon and earthy - good mix of brightness and complexity. There is piercing acidity on the palate, the fruit has good richness to counter, with plenty of texture and depth. Really good stuff.

White
1988 Leo Buring Riesling Leonay DW R13 Rhine Riesling Watervale Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Watervale
92 points
Musk, orange, honey, kero, spice and slate - some floral aromatics as well. Rounded out on the palate, it is developed but still has some freshness and fruit presence. Good length, in excellent condition!
White
1998 Leo Buring Riesling Leonay Eden Valley Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley
92 points
White florals and lime, toast, orange and slate - good complexity. Good fruit power on the palate, though it retains excellent freshness and spark. Lovely length, this should get even better with another 4-5 years. Came back to this at the end of the night and it was even better!

White
2014 Kusuda Riesling New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough
90 points
Spice, orange peel, passionfruit and lemon. Good restraint to the fruit on the palate, still shows some mineral intensity. Good cut and length, would like to revisit in 5-6 years.
White
1999 Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste. Hune France, Alsace
flawed
Muted and lacking in character. Likely faulty.
White - Off-dry
2004 Albert Boxler Riesling Sommerberg Vendange Tardive France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru
92 points
Pear, pineapple, apricot and some mineral slate to go with the more tropical elements. Rich but also shows control, this has excellent balance and a sense of elegant style. Great length, this is really delicious. Maybe another 5 years would see it around its peak?
White
2007 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Leistenberg Riesling Kabinett Germany, Nahe
91 points
Very light colour. Lemon, slate, spice and pear. Intense palate power, there is sweetness but also lovely pure fruit. This is developing brilliantly, it is really well composed with great depth and poise. Excellent length.
White
2015 Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
93 points
375ml. Lifted florals, slatey mineral, apple, lime and spice. Superb mineral zing to the palate, this has beautiful freshness and energy. Really amped up, but still shows off great fruit purity. Delicious!

White - Off-dry
2007 Schäfer-Fröhlich Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Spätlese Germany, Nahe
91 points
Golden colour. Peach, apple, passionfruit, lychee and some earthy notes. Surprisingly fresh palate, really quite bold with the fruit intensity but has excellent balance. Plenty of sweetness but the vibrancy definitely asserts itself as well. Really lovely.
Red
2009 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
91 points
Earthy, cherry, graphite, lifted violets and licorice - a little bit of everything on the nose. Palate is quite fine, there is good acid and fruit restraint. Good structure and quite appealing now, though more complexity should come with time.
Red
2007 Descendientes de José Palacios Bierzo Corullon Las Lamas Spain, Castilla y León, Bierzo
90 points
Ash, blood/iron, herbal notes and licorice. Fairly astringent on the palate, there is some lightly sweet fruit but it never really appears at the forefront. A herbal note through the palate gives it some extra interest. Good carry. Should be able to age further without too many problems.
Red
2010 Luigi Baudana Barolo Serralunga d'Alba Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
91 points
Ash, earth, strawberry and clay. Dark and brooding palate, very serious fruit and structure. Tightens up toward the finish. Good, but certainly needs more time to shine.

Red
2013 Vietti Barolo Lazzarito Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
92 points
Violet, roses, redcurrant, cherry and spice - quite a pretty nose out of the gate. Has that same pretty element on the palate, there is pretty high acidity that keeps it bright. Not a waste to open now as it has character but there is more to come here.
Red
2010 Marion Amarone della Valpolicella Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella
90 points
Licorice, blackberry, redcurrant and cedar. Quite intense palate, there is punchy fruit and quite a bit of weight behind it. Still shows focus through the middle, nice wine in this bigger style and preferred to the 2012 that we tried earlier this year.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2015 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Eiswein Germany, Nahe
96 points
Flinty, mandarin, orange and lemon aromas on the nose. This sizzles on the palate, with the fruit showing off outstanding purity and depth. Stunning balance with the sweetness tempered brilliantly. Superbly long and detailed. Superb!
