Introduction

The annual Chablis and Oysters tasting at Prince pulled together a varied selection of Petit chablis, village chablis and a couple of 1er Crus

Flight 1 (10 notes)

White
2016 Christophe et Fils Petit Chablis France, Burgundy, Chablis, Petit Chablis
Lemon and spice, peach, more peachy on the palate, slightly bitter on the finish and a little grip on the tongue. Meh.
White
2015 Domaine Bernard Defaix Chablis France, Burgundy, Chablis
earthy almost with a citric tang. More of the same on the palate with some burr as well. Meh
White
2015 Domaine Bernard Defaix Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
slight toast, butter, fruit is a little peachier and it's riper on the palate, juicy as well, slight burr. Hmm.
White
2015 Domaine Eleni et Edouard Vocoret Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot France, Burgundy, Chablis
peachy fruit, quite pretty, floral top notes. Bit wild ferment on the palate with tannic burr and citrus fruit. Slight saline as well. Okay
White
2015 Domaine Eleni et Edouard Vocoret Chablis Les Pargues France, Burgundy, Chablis
Peaches, almost apricots, very sweet fruit. Juicy, tangy, the fruit is more savoury on the palate. Yum
White
2015 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis France, Burgundy, Chablis
Meaty and gamey over green apples. Juicy, almost zesty with green apples and slightly meaty notes. Some burr on the tong of the mouth as well. Meh.
White
2015 Gilbert Picq & ses Fils Chablis France, Burgundy, Chablis
Medium minus intensity aromas; savoury, leesy, lemony fruit, slight sweet spice. Juicy, fleshy and quite savoury on the palate. Lacks fruit for me otherwise okay.
White
2015 Domaine Louis Moreau Chablis Domaine de Bieville France, Burgundy, Chablis
lemons over peaches, slight butter and toast, a little mineral, wet stone as well. Juicy, fruity and spicy. Long finish and a little front of mouth grip. Pretty good.
White
2014 Jean Dauvissat Pere & Fils Chablis France, Burgundy, Chablis
wild ferment over muted fruit; slight butter. Zestily juicy, quite mineral and linear but also quite short
White
2014 Jean Dauvissat Pere & Fils Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Ripe peaches, sweet spice, butter, slight toast. Refreshing, fruity, tannic burr on the mid palate and front of mouth. Fruit carries long. Pleasant.

Closing

A pleasant tasting, more so because it followed on the heels of the Chablis lunch I had with E & M and others…
