Introduction

We joined Tina, Brian, Cindy & Gary for a casual pasta party. Brian chose a couple of nice wines from Chambers.

Flight 1 - Saluti (1 note)

White - Sparkling
2010 Julia Bernet Corpinnat 130 Brut Nature Spain, Catalunya, Corpinnat
A well balanced, tasty and impressive Cava. I should have paid closer attention. Maybe somewhat tight.

Flight 2 - Hors d'Oeuvres (3 notes)

Prosciutto, wild boar salumi, mortadella, ricotta salata, 10-year aged Pecorino, Sottocenere, olives & potato tortilla

White
2015 Familia Nin-Ortiz Priorat Planetes de Nin - Blanc Spain, Catalunya, Priorat
first experience with Priorat Blanco. Seems like I likely start at the top. This wine from the rare Carignan Blanc made me take notice. Terrific mineral flavor, excellent depth and body. Structured but with cut and finesse. I found the flavor profile intriguing. Excellent and very food-friendly.
White
2001 Morey-Blanc Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Lemony notes buttress caramel that almost suggests sweet. Perhaps an improvement over recent bottles. This one was livelier. Hanging on but nearing the end.
Red
1980 Simi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Alexander Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley
Thin, shrill and dead.

Flight 3 - Dinner (2 notes)

Homemade pasta - light red sauce, prosciutto & asparagus

Red
2009 Fattoria Selvapiana Chianti Rùfina Riserva Bucerchiale Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Rùfina
A very good Chianti with tart and lush fruit (the ripeness of the vintage is a bit much for me). A hefty wine with easy, integrated tannins. It paired effortlessly with a pasta in a light red sauce with pancetta and asparagus. Could be very interesting if the ripe fruit dials back in time.

Red
2003 BOND Matriarch USA, California, Napa Valley
Viscous, velvety and vivacious. Much more in check than I feared. Certainly not a style I relish but a well made, tasty wine that I could enjoy to an extent.
