Introduction

An afternoon tasting at one of the biggest players for high quality wines in my hometown.
This tasting is about France and once again France!

Flight 1 - Some reds and Whites from France, not that inspiaring! (5 notes)

White
2015 Château d'Antugnac Terres Amoureuses France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Limoux
Never heard from this estate before, but....., a very great showing for a reasonable price tag, very dense, delicious yellow fruit, herbal, some sweet touch like honeycomb, fullbodied and ending long, recommended, **(*-?)
Red
2014 Department 66 Others France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Côtes Catalanes
A very fullbodied and dense showing, the fruit (too) sweet, too high ABV (15,2%), sweet black fruit, more the marmelade style, very lush though, a high class sweet fruit monster, not made for me, *(*-?)

Red
2015 Château de Haute-Serre Cahors Grand Vin Seigneur France, Southwest France, Cahors
Almost inky in the glass, strong fragrance of ripe black fruit, on the palate very herbal, fine but strong tannin, mouthfeel somehow a little harsh from the tannin, to concentrated for me, (14,5%), *(*+ - ?)
Red
2015 Frédéric Magnien Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Quite delicious showing, lush fruit with an fine elegant swallowing, but not among the best ones from this very good dream vintage, too pricey, **(*-?)
Red
2015 Domaine Thunevin-Calvet Côtes du Roussillon Villages Hugo France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Côtes du Roussillon Villages
Some grainy tannin, mineralic driven but on the other too fullbodied, fine grip, high ABV (15%), black dense fruit, ending long but not made for me, *(*- ***?)

Flight 2 - Some Bordeaux 2014 and 2012 (9 notes)

Not that impressing, both vintages lacking charme!

Red
2014 Château Barthez France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
86 points
Quite lean on the palate, some cherry, young showing with some spicy aromas, more on the lightbodied side of Bordeaux, good entry level bottle, *(*+ ?), 86+ potential
White
2015 Château Saint-Robert Cuvée Poncet Deville Blanc France, Bordeaux, Graves
This one is really delicious, strong fragrance of ripe fruit, nutty from the barrels though, all very harmonic, tropical rich but elegant fruit, long tasty finish, a very reasonable price tag, around 17€ per bottle, recommended! **-(***), 88+ potential
Red
2014 Château Clement-Pichon France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
84 points
Some savoury black fruit, good energetic showing, more the elegant style, but ending somehow a little exhausting lean, *(*-?)
Red
2014 Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
92 points
One glass, brief note: Tasty, tasty and tasty, this is what i wrote in my tasting book, this one is all about finesse showing some cassis, violetsand stony earthy aromas, great depth though, ending with a long and somehow mineralic aftertaste, not a bargain but for me worth the money, **(**?)
Red
2014 Château Belgrave France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
One glass, brief note: fine nose showing some black currant paired with minerality, tight on the midpalate, quite concentrated savoury black fruit, good lenght, *(*-***), 88+ potential
Red
2014 Château Le Boscq St. Estèphe France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
One glass, brief note: a bit rustic showing, very St. Estephe, fresh persistence, earthy, long, good entry+ level Bordeau, *(**), 87+ potential
Red
2012 Château Montrose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
One glass, brief note: in one word.........., exhausting, a lot of tertiary aromas, adstringend, not charming at all, (***-?), 88+ potential
Red
2012 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
One glass, brief note: this one is still very influenced by its barrels, mocha, espresso, all the way roasty, but ending with the pure young elegance!, *(**-****), 90+ potential
Red
2012 Château Valandraud France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
One glass, brief note: only 23.000 bottles filled, quite high ABV (14,5%), but a very harmonic and persistent showing, fresh and dense, a lot of ripe black berry, long+ aftertaste, **(**- +?), 92+ potential
