Introduction

A really enjoyable tasting of 2016 whites and 2014/2015 reds from bottle with the family at their Saint Aubin domaine. The whites are outstanding values in any cellar, and the reds are good for those that prefer a lighter styled pinot.

Flight 1 (14 notes)

White
2016 Henri Prudhon & Fils Saint-Aubin Le Ban Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin
PnP bottle. Sees 15% new oak. The nose is clean and bright. The wine has a ton of driving acidity. Linear personality with so much chiseling and precision. Good, leaner style of entry level white burg. 87-88 point potential.
White
2016 Henri Prudhon & Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Sur le Sentier du Clou Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
PnP bottle. Sees 25% new oak. More intensity and lift compared to the Le Ban. Palate has very good concentration and plumpness. Loads of citrus flavor and acid cut. Excellent tension in this wine. Lemons for days. Just a hint of creaminess in the finish. 90+ point potential and a great value.
White
2016 Henri Prudhon & Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Perrières Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
PnP bottle. The nose is more closed in and tight. The wines feels a bit more substantial with good concentration, but not overly expressive beyond mineral. I like the textures once again leaning towards creamy with tons of acid. 88++ point potential assuming this unwinds.
White
2016 Henri Prudhon & Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru sur Gamay Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
PnP bottle. Like the Perrierres, the nose is closed in. The palate is however showing great fruit roundness with acidic tension. Again picking up the slight creaminess that is carried by nice racy acidity. Quite like this vineyard. 91+ point potential.
White
2016 Henri Prudhon & Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Chatenière Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
PnP bottle. From 60 year old vines. There is a nice elegance to this wine despite tremendous power and drive on the palate. Richness and acid tension keep playing off each other into a long finish. 91-92 point potential.
White
2016 Henri Prudhon & Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Murgers des Dents de Chien Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
PnP bottle. Forward nose that has some smoke with loads of orchard fruit. This has more density and concentration, yet still features the driving acidic energy. Excellent taut, mouth-watering length. 91-92 point potential.
White
2016 Henri Prudhon & Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
PnP bottle. Another forward enthralling nose. This has the most richness, denseness and bordering on fatness of the St. Aubins. Still features the trademark driving acidity and tension. A bit of that roundness and creaminess that is so good when countered with taut acids. Really enjoyable. 91-92 point potential, and perhaps there already today.
White
2016 Henri Prudhon & Fils Chassagne-Montrachet Les Houillères France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
PnP bottle. The nose is a bit more subdued. Very much in the trademark house style with a hint of roundness in the fruit but driving acids. Lots of lemon and citrus tones. I preferred the St. Aubins to this village Chassagne.
White
2016 Henri Prudhon & Fils Puligny-Montrachet Les Enseignères France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
PnP bottle. This has the most sweetness and roundness of any wine in the line up, and it's not fat by any means ... but on a relative basis, it has a certain fatness to it. Good enough, but I prefer the trademark house style in the St. Aubin bottlings. 87-88 point potential.
Red
2014 Henri Prudhon & Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
PnP bottle. Elegant and pretty aromatics of red cherry with some light herbaceous qualities. Lighter bodied, elegant and easy to drink already. 87-88 points.
Red
2014 Henri Prudhon & Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Rouges-Gorges France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
PnP bottle. Again aromatically pleasing and elegant with prototypically Burgundian aromas. I prefer this to the Frionnes as it remains elegant but has more intensity, depth and length. 88 point potential, and perhaps more for those seeking a truly feminine Pinot.

Red
2014 Henri Prudhon & Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Sur le Sentier du Clou Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
PnP bottle. Tighter aromatically. Still has that elegant styled Pinot but brings more concentration (still light in the grand scheme of things) and intensity of flavor. 87-88 point potential.
Red
2015 Henri Prudhon & Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Frionnes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
PnP bottle. A clear step from the '14 pinots in terms of intensity and richness. The nose has black cherry and herb. Fuller and rounder but still lighter-bodied in a broader context. Very good freshness. 88-89 point potential.

Red
2015 Henri Prudhon & Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Rouges-Gorges France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
PnP bottle. Stepping up in intensity and richness once more. I quite like this Pinot and think it's attractively proportioned in a lighter style with good depth of flavor. Long, savory, ethereal finish. 90 point potential.
