Introduction

Time to have a look at where these have all got to.

Flight 1 (3 notes)

Red
2009 Château du Tertre France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
91 points
Funny, by itself I think this is really an excellent wine. In the company of Dom Chevallier and Battailley it becames still an enjoyable wine, but I notice the slight imbalance towards acidity on the palate on towards alcohol on the nose. Still good, but the others are better.

Red
2009 Château Batailley France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
92 points
The red fruit on the nose is now joined also by hints of darker fruit. The typical Pauillac nose with hints of damp cellar and even leather (is this showing some secondary notes already, or is it just that the companions are less evolved even though they are the same vintage maybe). On the palate it is more balanced than the Tertre, but still young with acidity and tannins still quite perky. This will likely develop very well, but if you like them young it is great now.

So different from the Pauillac and Margaux. Surprisingly perhaps, much more spice on the nose, otherwise all red fruit. Some acidity for sure on the palate, less tannins, and terrific balance with the red fruit. Still very young but enjoyable, the best of the three (and also more expensive, how depressing...)
