Tasted February 10, 2018 by fc1910 with 170 views

Introduction

Our Riesling-aficionado group of ten is celebrating the annual meeting.

Like always we start with a variety show at the Hansa Theater introducing some entry level wines.
Later on we enter the Delta Bistro to pair again some high quality Meat and great Riesling!

Flight 1 (10 notes)

White
2016 Kühling-Gillot Riesling Quinterra trocken Germany, Rheinhessen
A fresh, quiet rich in stonefruit entry level Riesling, creamy harmonic, fine swallowing, good+, **(+), 86-87
White
2015 Weingut Wilhelm Sitzius Langenlonsheimer Riesling Trocken Germany, Nahe
At firt this bottle is very lean and taut, lacking some richness of fruit, with some slow ox getting balanced, ending with a whiff of sweetness, more on the feinherb side of Riesling, *-**, around 83-84+
White
2013 Pearl Morissette Estate Winery Riesling Cuvée Black Ball Canada, Ontario, Niagara Peninsula, Twenty Mile Bench VQA
Our Riesling-aficionado group likes to be introduced to a Riesling from the new world, this one is on the wine list so we give it a try, lacking the stonefruit we all like so much, this one is showing more wet spices, taut, white pepper, somehow exhausting, but ending with some lively supporting acidity, *-**, around 82-83+
White - Off-dry
2012 Weingut Manz Weinolsheimer Kehr Riesling Spätlese <M> *** Germany, Rheinhessen
91 points
The three stars in the descriptive wine list are indicating something great! As this estate is not a VDP member they use the wellknown stars from the classic Auslese+ labeling, these enjoyed last four bottles of this restaurant are that deep and rich in stonefruit, more lush or voluptous buffered by a very balancing acidity, still young but tonight really delicious, if you can find this wine somewhere, highly recommended, a bargain! ***(*), around 90- 91+
White
2009 Karthäuserhof Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Großes Gewächs Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
92 points
From Magnum: BYO to the restaurant, tight, full of energy, dancing with a tasty tropical fruit on the palate, still young, rich fruit on the midpalate, ending long+ with vibrating acidity, from Magnum to be opened from now on! **(**-?), 91-92+ potential
White
2010 Dönnhoff Felsenberg Riesling Großes Gewächs Germany, Nahe
94 points
From Magnum: BYO to the restaurant, this one is really electric, this Riesling tension, a textbook Nahe appearance, this young, still demanding acidity, stone licking at its best, ending with a superb saline Riesling precision, a really great bottle! ***(**), 93-94+ potential
White
2011 Weingut Dreissigacker Bechtheimer Geyersberg Riesling Germany, Rheinhessen
91 points
From Magnum: the last bottle of this on the wine list of the Delta, we are the real lucky cherry pickers today!
This one is really silky, from the more warm 2011 vintage now just in it s drinking window, very rich tropical fruit such as mango and apricot, really delicious on the midpalate, ending long+, would not cellar this one for more than 3-5 years, all depending on your preferences, ***-****, around 91
White
2005 Graf von Schönborn Grauburgunder *** Spätlese Barrique Germany, Franken
The most controversial wine of the evening, paired the sweet dessert, for me a good pairing, but on its own with the high ABV (13,5%) and still present tannin and barrique influence not that easy drinking stuff, from *-***
White
2015 Odinstal Riesling Muschelkalk Germany, Pfalz
85 points
This one is a little too light after all this great stuff before, crispy, but lacking the tension most of the other wines of tonight have shown, ** at best! Around 85- 86
White - Sparkling
N.V. Palmer & Co Champagne Vintage Brut France, Champagne
88 points
One last Magnum: Biscuits, yeasty, really balanced with some supporting acid, tart, refreshing! Very good! **(*)
