White
2006 François Chidaine Montlouis-sur-Loire Les Choisilles France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Montlouis-sur-Loire
92 points
Stunning Montliouis, drinking in full maturity. Honied, bright acidity, green stem aspect, and minerals. Superb presence on the palate. A touch of perceived sweetness on the mid-palate gives way to a dry and involving finish. This is a special wine, drinking beautifully tonight.
White
2010 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Tessons Clos de Mon Plaisir France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
92 points
Gorgeous bottle, in full maturity. Classic hazelnut, peaches and cream style. beautiful line of acidity offers verve, to the supple and round mouth feel. Intense palate with great focus. Long and mineral. A special Meursault showing very well at the moment.
Red
2007 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Barbaresco Vürsù Vigneto Gallina Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
93 points
Gorgeously formed Barbaresco, in a ripe style, drinking at a perfect point in early maturity. Excellent balance of flavours, in a riper style, held together with a concentrated and firm tannic background (although compared to the Beaucastel 1989 drunk at the same time, this came across as light!). Wonderful expression of Nebbiolo - it is lithe, but brings a beautiful sense of proportion. Truely beautiful with a roast pork in almond milk, which brought out elegance and floral aspects to this bottle.
Red
1989 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
97 points
This is the finest bottle of Beaucastel 1989 that I have yet drunk, which is saying something, as I have never scored the wine less than 95 points! While there is a touch of brett, the overall impression on the nose is one of extreme purity. The gamey/tree bark nature of Mouvedre is there in total focus, and the fruit quality is lifted and intense - fully at the level of the Leoville Las Cases 1982 drunk the previous night. In the mouth, the wine is TANNIC! The structure of this wine is completely informed by this element, and brings with it an extraordinary clarity of expression. This is the essence of Mouvedre, but the accompanying varietals add complexity, nuance and flesh. If not quite as ageless as the Leoville Las Cases, it still feels completely at ease with its age, and has developed a stunning transparency. 97 - 98 points....
