Introduction

First time at P&V for a tasting to check out Lark Hill and Fromm plus some nice little ring ins as an added bonus. Note - wines listed in order of tasting (for a change)

Flight 1 (17 notes)

Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Lark Hill Pinot Noir Roxanne Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
Frizzante, slight cherry, a little yeast. Innocuous to the point of blandness with a little front of mouth grip on the palate. Meh
White
2016 Fromm Sauvignon Blanc La Strada New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
Herbaceous, gooseberry, slight lime and a little minerality. Quite sour on the palate with a little gooseberry lolly. Hmm
White
2016 Lark Hill Riesling Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
Wet stone, citrus, lime and lime peel, a little reductive. Tart, tight, lime peel, over lime juice, a little savoury with a bit of front of mouth grip. Hmm.

White
2017 Lark Hill Grüner Veltliner Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
Muted, herbs, lemon, quite earthy and spice as well. Tartly acidic, lemon tending to grapefruit for me with a little mid palate grip. Looks unfiltered…Food required I think.
White
2016 Lark Hill Chardonnay Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
New oak, butter, over muted peachy fruit, sight herbs, a little jubey. Quite oaky on the palate, a little bitter and the fruit is hidden beneath vanilla and butter. Nah.
White
2016 Fromm Chardonnay La Strada New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
Touch of gamey wild ferment, struck match, lemon a little lees and a little butter to go with it. In the mouth it's juicy, fruit is a little muted under more dominant cream, butter and sweet spice.

White
2015 Fromm Chardonnay Clayvin Vineyard Marlborough New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
Rick, cedar, apricot, butter, sweet spice. Juicy, touch of lemon with the stone fruit a little muted. Again plenty of cream and butter here on the finish with some bitter spice on the finish.

Red
2016 Fromm Pinot Noir Naturel New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
Pretty jubey cherry fruit, touches of rose petal. Juicy and fresh with that jubey cherry and rose on the palate. Fine tannins are chamois soft. Lovely but drink now.
Red
2015 Fromm Pinot Noir Cuvée H New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
A little concentrated dark cherry, a little oak, vanilla, sweet spice, touches of black berry almost. Juicy, fleshy, a little tight needs time for me. Dark fruits travels long. Pretty good.
Red
2016 Lark Hill Pinot Noir Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
Pretty cherry, touches of cream, a little oak but very contained. Cigar box. Also a little dirty something here. More of the same on the palate. A little grip. Okay
Red
2015 Lark Hill Shiraz Viognier Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
Funky wah wah, meaty and savoury, stalky with jubey black berry, touches of black pepper, stalky, slightly green tannins married to sour black fruit and pepper on the palate. Tannins are flour textured and slightly drying
Red
2014 Fromm Syrah La Strada New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
Perfumed green and black peppercorns, black berry and a little liquorice on the nose. Juicy to the point of almost sourness, jubey, long, tannins are floury but the fruit persists. Rather pleasant.
Red
2017 Lark Hill Sangiovese Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
Medium minus red berry, minerality, a little spice. Sourly, juicy, a little alcohol warmth the fruit is more cherry on the palate but it's a touch meh for me.
White
2015 Domaine Heitz-Lochardet Bourgogne-Aligoté France, Burgundy, Bourgogne-Aligoté
Sweet spice, slight citrus, marzipan, pretty floral, toast. Juicy, fresh, tangy, fruit a little muted but this is jolly pleasant. Charming in fact.
White
2015 Nicolas Joly Savennières France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Savennières
Honeyed, sweetly fruited, slight lanolin, bees wax, slight lemon. Apples and lemon with honey and herbs, slightly oxidised on palate which is broad and waxy with mouth burr.
White
2008 Dry River Gewürztraminer Lovat Vineyard New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough
lychee, rose petal, a little alcohol heat. Honey, spice, rich but juicy, more lychee, rose petal etc. on the palate. Lovely and holding it's age very well indeed.
White - Off-dry
2016 Fromm Riesling Spätlese New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
Crisp lime, sulphur, earthy notes. Juicy, sweet limes and candied peel, pleasant if not a little simple

Closing

it was a lovely surprise to see those three wines at the end and capped a rather splendid tasting - especially as they served up some brisket, salad, hummus and pitta to tidy up the reds with. Thumbs up all round. It was my first time at the bottle shop and they had a rather large collection of natural wines so I think a repeat visit will need to be undertaken...
