Flight 1 - Starter Wines (2 notes)

Red
2006 Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier Shiraz Lieu dit Malakoff Australia, Victoria, Western Victoria, Pyrenees
Darker core with large maroon rim, fine sediment; olives, floral, violets, brine, fresh and classic Syrah, sour plum; good grain to the wine, sour plum, granite?, peppery, pink peppercorn, tangy, dry extract; very tasty, was in St. Joseph/Crozes Hermitage.
Red
2009 Azienda Agricola San Giuseppe Brunello di Montalcino Stella di Campalto Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Very pale rose core with onion skin rim; soft nose, rose water, slight green herbs note, soft texture and sexy mouthfeel, almost cinnamon; others in Barolo but I called '09 Rosso di Montalcino, was not getting nobility apparently.

Flight 2 - Main Event (10 notes)

Red
2014 Frederic Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles-St.-Jacques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Reddish violet core showing clarity; great nose, spice, violets, cranberry, lingonberry, texture and richness evident from the nose; sappy on the palate, great balance, enticing dark cherry; was in Pousse d'Or Volnay.
Red
2001 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon The Montelena Estate USA, California, Napa Valley
Dark core with reddish violet rim; balm, Italian-like nose, roses, sweet dark cherry, herbs, menthol, cedar, licorice; more age evident on the palate, sandalwood, modern but nice underlying character, currants, a juiciness; was in Barbera, whoa, this was too high acid and was too easy drinking.

Red
2009 Castello di Ama Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
Dark crimson core with rusty rim; nutty, leather, balsamic, wilted flowers, meaty, autumnal; clay and wet earth, cherry, fuller body with easier tannin, spicy finish, some oak and polish, a touch shorter finish; tasty even though nose was slightly awkward.
