1987 Weingut Knoll Grüner Veltliner Kabinett trocken Ried Schütt Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

Dirk told us that its from the Ried Kreutles sight but after I had another look at the label I´m not quite sure anymore. The label says Loibner Schütt, so imo its from Schütt. A very interesting wine. Not much fruit left, just a bit of yellow fruit mixed with white pepper (typical for Veltliner) and a hint of camomile. The oak influence is quite recognisable here with some notes of super fine caramel. In the beginning I thought it is an Chardonnay.
Still quite strong acidity, lovely freshness, stayed long. Herbal and some bitter notes on the finish. Very good and a lovely surprise referred to the age. If you have any bottle left, drink up now.

2011 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Fusion Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

As much as I like the off-dry Grünhaus stuff, I have to say that this wine wasn´t my cup of tea. This Fusion comes out of a parcel in the Abtsberg which was aged in new Barriques made out of wood from a forest the Grünhaus family owns. The oak influence is quite prominent on the nose with a lot of caramel and coconut notes. Also some exotic fruit like Maracuja and strong menthol note. Kind of a strange nose.
Very intense on the palate with a bit too much heat on the finish. Very ripe and a bit broad (2011). The acidity untwists after more time in the glass. Maybe I should gave it more time in the Decanter. Chris told me that the wine improves a bit after 48 hours in the open bottle so I would recommend to give it a lot of air. Still a very special and unique style you have to like.

2010 Domaine Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet

A very nice showing from this Puligny-Montrachet from Jacques Carillon. The nose comes over in a very light and precise kind of style. More white fruit aromas, a hint of eucalyptus and garden herbs mixed with just a kiss of oak.
Very precise on the palate with a vibrant acidity. Some chalk components mixed with seashell. Like on the nose, more lean in style. Perfect integration of oak. Not too much but it is there. Wonderful showing. Still some potential left for further aging.

2003 Emrich-Schönleber Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Spätlese trocken Germany, Nahe
90 points
Definitely influenced by the super hot vintage 2003, this Halenberg Spätlese trocken from Schönleber showed lots of ripe fruit like apricot, beeswax, ripe pear, acacia honey and with some more time in the glass, some fine herbal notes.
Also super ripe on the palate, the acidity only showed up on the back end. Gets better with time in the glass.
White - Off-dry
1976 Deinhard Winkeler Hasensprung Riesling Auslese Germany, Rheingau

This Auslese still showed a nice amount of fruit like candied apricot. Precise nose, some nice herbal components. Maybe just a bit rustic. The acidity plays on a medium+ level and is still alive and kicking. Harmonious sweetness. Good but not great.

2015 Wijndomein Aldeneyck Pinot Noir Belgium, Flanders, Maasvallei Limburg

Lots of nail polisher on the nose which meanwhile is a bit of a problem for me (I was a strong fan of strange natural wine stuff, cured now :P) but it blows off with some air. Lots of cherry, some lactic notes and a hint of vanilla. But the cherry was very up front. Also on the palate the cherry dominantes over the rest of the flavor profile which showed very pure in style. Also some Joghurt stuff and a bit of herbal spices. The oak influence is quite good. Okay, but nothing more for me.
Red
2005 Schiefer Blaufränkisch Ried Reihburg Austria, Burgenland, Südburgenland

Holy moly, big surprise here. Very dark on the nose with dark fruit aromas like black cherry, black currant and also some blueberries. Some herbs and a bit of green pepper which reminds me of Cabernet-Franc. Quite a massive but also complex nose.
On the palate very good acidity level, some pepper, juicy on the long finish. Very and I really mean VERY young showing. I´m sure that wine will go on for another two decades easily. I was very impressed but with some days distance I maybe would say that the wines impressed me in his massiveness but misses a bit the fine notes which I always try to find in wine.

1970 Berberana Rioja Gran Reserva Spain, La Rioja, Rioja

The next big surprise in this tasting and another proof that also middle class Riojas can age forever. A super funky nose with a complex mix of bouillon, iodine anchovies, sea salt, smoked meat but also some dried red berries after some air. Provençale herbs and coffee. Every minute you get a new layer.
Not that complex on the palate although the acidity is quite lively with some red currant notes. Also some smoke and salty flavors. Medium finish.
White - Off-dry
1997 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

AP 09 or Cask #09. I´m not very experienced with the older Haag off-dry bottlings but this 1997 Auslese Goldkapsel was nothing more then an amazing wine in every sense of the word. The whole wine is absolutely inherently consistent. Everything is on the right place. Tom said: "Like a very, very beautiful woman without any make-up." And what impressed me most was, although you can feel the ripe components, the wine stays super fresh. The nose is a mix of candied lemon, peach, a bit of strawberry and candied orange peel mixed with cassis, pine needles, tons of green herbs and a hint of mint.
The acidity level and the extract are in perfect harmony on the palate. Very long, slightly creamy (the only indication point for the GK level) and floating down like silk. An incredible showing and one of the best off-dry wines I had all year. And still in a very young stadium. Another two decades when stored properly? No problem at all.
