2012 Château Rayas Côtes du Rhône La Pialade France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
88 points
(blind)
Herbal, savory va, with rustic cherry.
Elevated acid and alcohol. Med tannins bitter. Super herbal! Spruce and pine.
Pale ruby with sediment.
My guess: 2005 Etna Rosso.
Actually Rayas Pialade, 13.5%

This has great acid!

2010 Château Coutet Opalie Sec France, Bordeaux
91 points
(blind)
Medium gold color.
Almond and dried peach. 14% alcohol (close - 14.5%), nutty oxidative notes - well integrated. Almond. Slight oak impression.
Stylistic and structural bitterness - elevated bitterness. The wine seems defined by bitterness, in a good way. Medium acid.

In conclusion, this is a slightly oaked oxidative white. Pronounced hazelnut - 20% new oak:

Guess: Northern Rhône Marsanne roussane blend 2010 - Hermitage.

Actually 2010 opalie de coutet. 14.5% $40

Conclusion: I'm extremely puzzled by the structural bitterness here, but this is a very good wine - just in an unusual style.

2006 Alessandro e Gian Natale Fantino Barolo Riserva Bussia Cascina Dardi Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
89 points
medium minus ruby with a red rim. Perfumed nose with VA, dried peach terpenes, white and ripe red cherry (dried), and a notable sweetness - slight vanilla (maybe some used barrels), sweet jamon iberico. A weird lactic diacetyl thing.
Beautiful palate. Classic Barolo with strong medium plus acid and high chewy tannins. Tannins are a bit melted so not at that exciting aggressive point. Medium bitterness - in balance with the acid alcohol and tannins.

For me this is a great wine in an awkward in between state. Not save and vibrant but also not fully tertiary.

beautoful! Medium minus ruby. Expressive nose of Brett, slight manure, hints of pure blackberry liqueur. detailed slightly dried blackberry, perfumed VA notes. This is just so awesome.
Medium bodied, 14% alcohol, beautiful elevat d acid, elevated tannins - chewy and well developed. Long finish.

2010 Francesco Rinaldi e Figli Barolo Le Brunate Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

awesome. Dense blackberry with classically light barolo. High acid and high tannins - still chewy though showing polish! Leaves. Dried leaves. Perfumed and long. High alcohol that’s well contained. This is classic.

N.V. Georges Laval Champagne Premier Cru Brut Nature Cumières France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
88 points
(blind)
Feels 3-5g dosage. (Actually brut nature). Good ripe fruit. High-plus acid. Low autolysis. Medium fine bubbles. Powerful mousse. Elegant example of a cleaner style of Champagne.

Guess: no specific guess (or I forgot to write it down).
Actual: 2014 disgorged 2016 George Laval cumieres premier cru.
The 2-year tirage is longer than I would have guessed blind.

Nice!

It’s very good and the aromatics in hindsight are classic BdX.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2004 Château d'Yquem France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
92 points
24hr decant - Ashish said it was heavily vanilla at first.
2004 was the first Lurton vintage (changeover from Lur Saluces).

Young. Candied rose petals, guava creme brûlée.
A lighter Yquem. Candied grapefruit pith. Medium plus acid but balanced because overall it’s a lighter wine. Slight piave cheese rind and cinnamon (lees and oak). Oak is super well integrated.

A lighter style than ‘03 and ‘01. Around ‘04-05 they reduced the oak regime and the wines got a bit more fresh, light, and floral.

They made a harsh selection and its reputation is way above the vintage.
