Rosé
2013 Domaine des Lambrays La Rose Du Clos Rosé France, Burgundy
88 points
From what I remember, the last few times I had this, I thought that this could use a little more age, and all of a sudden, it gets a lot more age. Nice richness, with a concentrated sappiness on the palate. Fairly intense, but a slight bitter touch on the finish. Fairly complex with a heavier texture for a rose -- not a simple drinking wine, but a proper wine in its own right. I'm not sure I like it more at this age though.

2008 Henri Boillot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
90 points
Tons and tons of oak, without that nice characteristic Boillot reductiveness. It's fat and broad, and there's a waxiness here, with a surprisingly plumpness and far more stone fruit than I'd expect. Not great cut -- a bit flabby, bit still sufficient acidity where it's not a huge problem. Probably best to drink these sooner than later.

2014 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
93 points
This is a great wine in the Lamy lineup -- I've had it several times and it has always impressed. There seems to be a slight touch of oak here, but it's not toasty or anything like that. Great cut and precision, with laser-like focus. Fresh and zippy, with tart yellow and white fruit and a fair bit of complexity.

2011 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
93 points
Compared to the Clos of the same vintage, this is a bit more of an exuberant wine, showing more high-toned fruit and florals, and a slightly more cheery disposition with sweeter fruit on the palate. It hides the minerality more so than the Clos, and this comes across as the more fruit-driven of the pair. Mouthwatering acids.

2011 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
93 points
A little more closed and stern than the Preuses, this seems to focus very much on some sort of minerality here. It's not exuberant with the fruit, which, while pleasant, isn't the characteristic that stands out the most here. There's a soft waxiness on the palate, as well as a slight tinge of peppery greenness that adds interest. Relatively speaking, this has the thicker, richer texture.

2005 Emmanuel Houillon (Maison Pierre Overnoy) Chardonnay Arbois Pupillin France, Jura, Arbois Pupillin
90 points
This is a fairly odd wine, but despite all those oddities, it's kind of enjoyable. A fairly generous amount of spritz to start. Flintstone vitamins come to mind here, and there are definitely flavours that evoke sour beers more than wine on the nose and palate. For me, the interesting sensation is that the wine starts off a bit funky, but this intense and clean stream of acidity swoops in and cleans everything up. Definitely fun to try, but this wouldn't be the sort of wine that I'm regularly hankering to drink.

2010 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Les Forêts France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
95 points
I've been quite down on Raveneau for a bit, and this bottle really brought me back on the bandwagon. Ripe, waxy texture with lemon peel, saline, and a slight bit of creaminess, but oh so much acid to balance it all out. There's just something in this wine that really spoke to me today -- I sort of doubt that this wine is as good as I'm making it out to be, but it just clicked.

2010 Jean Bourdy Chardonnay Côtes du Jura France, Jura, Côtes du Jura
90 points
Slightly nutty nose with a bit of almond and almond. The palate has a bit of bitterness but it works quite well here. Acidity adds lots of freshness to this wine, and despite the slight nutty qualities, this is still drinking very youthfully. Not too funky either.

A solera from 2013-2016, with 25% pinot gris, I believe. I really don't know what to make of this wine. It's definitely some sort of post-modern beverage that all the hipsters would go gaga over. Really bright and sweet red fruit, to the point of being slightly confected, with a huge amount of brown spice as well. The palate has an odd pine resin element that isn't immediately unpleasant, but isn't particularly welcome in a bottle of wine either. As far as hipster stuff goes, this isn't outright unpleasant, but it's a real headscratcher.

2010 Benjamin Leroux Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
90 points
Despite the time at Comte Armand, I think I like Leroux's whites more. But that's certainly not to impugn the quality of this wine. It does come off as a little heavy-handed right now, but that may well be a function of its youth. Generous oak and black fruit on the nose, with a slight bit of high-toned Sharpie market. The palate feels a bit blocky and clumsy, with lots of chunky elements that aren't all put together yet. I think there's enough material here for the long haul, and ample fruit for the ample structure. Despite my preference for Burgundy on the young side, this does need some more time to soften up.

2008 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru

#13230. The nose on this is probably one of the most stunning that I've experienced in a long while. Kaleidoscopic in its complexity with red fruit and flowers all over the place. It's delicate, sweet, and incredibly pretty. However, the palate doesn't live up to the very high expectation that the nose generates -- it's a little austere, and though there are some tart red fruit elements, to me there's not quite enough flesh for that huge acid-driven structure. I'm not sure if time will solve this problem either.

2008 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Domaine Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
95 points
An absolutely stunning bottle that really hits all the nails on the head for me. The nose isn't as aromatically intense and complex as the 2008 Lambrays, but there is a lovely mix of red and black fruit coupled with a slight hint of developing secondary characteristics. The palate is where this shines -- it is full and rounded, polished like an old rock in a riverbed, with just enough earthy funk that this still is incredibly clean. The fruit is crystalline and pure, and there's ample flesh here. For me, this is definitely ready to go, but there is also no harm in waiting.

1998 Joseph Drouhin Clos de la Roche France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
flawed
A teensy bit corked unfortunately, though not so bad as to render it undrinkable. In fact, there's nice black fruit on the nose and palate, as well as a surprising amount of acidity to keep things racy.
