Charcuterie and pates

2000 Philipponnat Champagne Brut Clos des Goisses
This was served too cold, my fault. Initially promising with rich and complex aromatics, it seemed to stiffen up in the glass. As it was the only wine open at the time, it was quickly drained and so we unfortunately did not have the opportunity to follow its evolution.

2012 Roses de Jeanne / Cédric Bouchard Champagne Blanc de Blancs La Bolorée
Perhaps opened too young, but I found this pleasant if limited in spectrum. And thus my long history of failing to grok the Bouchard wines continues.

Celery veloute
White
2005 Marc Colin et Fils Corton-Charlemagne
This was elegant for the vintage, evolved and very tasty, perhaps already at peak for my preference. It showed a gentle creamed corn note that I usually dislike, but it was subtle enough that I didn't object here. Jim described this flavor as a signature of aged Corton-Charlemagne.
White
2015 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Meix Chavaux
I found this tasty but a little awkward at present, and it lacked the freshness and bracing yet direct personality of the 2014 I tasted recently in Madrid. If I had any bottles, I'd wait a couple of years before opening another.

Vegetable terrine

2007 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses
This was utterly enchanting - a gorgeous, sexy nose of potpourri florals and spice, with a trace of sous-bois, and a silky sweet red fruit palate with more spice. Despite its relative youth, this was my favorite wine on the night, and perhaps of the last few months. Thank you Ross and Gary for sharing such a beautiful wine.

Red
2007 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses
This had an unappealing whiskey barrel nose (Errol called out vermouth), and an extracted palate that did not speak to me of Amoureuses, much less Chambolle. This was my first time trying a de Vogüé wine and it was a head-scratcher.
Flight 4 (1 note)
Onion tart
Red
1988 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains
This was in a lovely spot, probably a perfect state of development for mine. Sous-bois, iron, earth nose and a pleasantly developed, softened palate. One of the better older Nuits wines I have had.

Lamb shanks with figs and red wine, parsnip puree
Red
2001 Domaine Dujac Clos St. Denis
This had high ullage and a horrifically beaten down cork with some leakage under the capsule. Nonetheless the bottle was generally sound, showing a delicious melange of gentle spice, soft integrated red fruits and sophisticated sous-bois. With air a brown sugar madera note appears, and some blurriness develops at the edges of the fruit, and I suspect better cared for bottles will show fresher than this. But I enjoyed this bottle very much.
Red
2001 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche
This had a more youthful, focused expression of fruit compared to the Clos St Denis, with a Morello cherry character among the other spice and faint sous-bois notes. Very, very good, but I believe it will continue to improve for some time.
Flight 6 (1 note)
Cheese
Red
2006 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes
Initially this had a very interesting mineral-driven nose, however it became increasingly dull with time in the glass. I suspect with another 20 years the material will outshine its elevage, but tonight both of the de Vogüé wines were rather disappointing. Perhaps if I'd revisited this at the end of the evening, I'd have found something else, though.

White - Sparkling
1995 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut
This was a wonderful Comtes at a delightful stage of maturity, but I was sufficiently sated from the meal at his point that I barely managed a small pour. On any other night I'd have wanted to curl up and spend the night with this.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Château Suduiraut
I almost never drink sweet wines in recent years, but this was utterly delicious and in a wonderful place for current drinking. Another wine I could have curled up with for the evening. A great close for an outstanding group of wines.
