Introduction

2018 Giant Steps Pinot and Chardonnay wines and 2016 Yeringberg. The two years clearly shows in the wines. Does Giant Steps release too early?

Flight 1 (16 notes)

White
2018 Giant Steps Chardonnay Tarraford Vineyard Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Reserved, tight nose. Ditto palate. A trace underripe.
White
2018 Giant Steps Chardonnay Sexton Vineyard Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Some lemony fruit on the nose. Some fruit roundness on the palate. Also very tight.
White
2018 Giant Steps Chardonnay Applejack Vineyard Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Some roundness. Also austere.
White
2018 Giant Steps Chardonnay Wombat Creek Vineyard Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Very tight, quite acid.
White
2018 Giant Steps Chardonnay Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
A blend of the vineyards. By far the most approachable of the chardonnays. Showing some signs of development.
Red
2018 Giant Steps Pinot Noir Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Warmer, riper, more approachable.
Red
2018 Giant Steps Pinot Noir Sexton Vineyard Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Showing some round Pinot fruit. Should open up nicely with time.
Red
2018 Giant Steps Pinot Noir Applejack Vineyard Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Showing some nice Pinot fruit but still very austere.
Red
2018 Giant Steps Pinot Noir Primavera Vineyard Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Vineyard is on Lusatia Park Rd.
Some lift, some emerging fruit characters. Still very constrained.
Red
2018 Giant Steps Pinot Noir Wombat Creek Vineyard Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Trace of warm pinot aroma. Austere palate.
White
2016 Yeringberg Marsanne Roussanne Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Beginning to show some flavour development. Restrained structure. Needs 3+ years.
White
2016 Yeringberg Chardonnay Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Beginning to show some development. Still a baby. Needs 5 years.
White
2016 Yeringberg Viognier Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Very fine Viognier nose. Already rich on the palate. Drink 2021- 2025.
Red
2016 Yeringberg Pinot Noir Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Showing some debt. Ripe aromas. Lovely sweet fruit emerging, but the flavours are not long A tad extractive. Still not going to buy this.
Red
2016 Yeringberg Shiraz Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Beautiful, sweet shiraz. Will be very good. 2024+
Red
2016 Yeringberg Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Developing nice sweetness. Lacks much of the cabernet austerity that I dislike. 2025+
