White - Sparkling
N.V. Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut France, Champagne
A consistent favorite, quite rich without being excessive.

White - Sparkling
N.V. Alfred Gratien Champagne The Wine Society's Private Cuvée Brut France, Champagne
Much bigger and richer than the Veuve Cliquot NV which preceded it. I like this style a lot, although the party was divided.
Red
2014 Lodali Barolo Lorens Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Enjoyed this, although there was quite a lot of obvious oak.
Rosé
2017 Triennes Rosé France, Provence, Mediterranée
Still fresh and lovely, tho’ the 2018 is now in stock. Very good with food, avoids the strawberries-and-cream factor of other pinks.
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Lanson Champagne Brut Rosé Rose Label France, Champagne
This was fine but didn’t stand out nearly as much as the others
White - Sparkling
N.V. Taittinger Champagne Brut Réserve / La Française France, Champagne
Remains lovely, fresh, balanced, everyone’s favorite this weekend.
White
2016 Ataraxia Chardonnay South Africa, Cape South Coast, Walker Bay, Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley
Perfect balance, compelling nose, enough vanilla to seduce the members of our party who like big oaky Chardonnay’s, but not enough to put off those who prefer something leaner and more austere. Energized without being frenzied. Just in a really good place.
Red
2015 Gianni Brunelli Rosso di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino
Standout red of the trip for me. Luscious red-cherry and spice nose, clear and bright on the palate, some snap (goes well with food) but not so aggressive you can’t drink on its own.
