Introduction

6 couples all staying in the same big house for Memorial Day weekend in Big Bear. And it SNOWED on us!

Flight 1 (1 note)

Rosé
2017 Bedrock Wine Co. Ode to Lulu Old Vine Rosé USA, California
89 points
This wine was enjoyed alongside a rose from Terry Hoage. The Hoage had more depth, the Bedrock had more brightness. Both were good, but the consensus favorite was the Hoage.

Red
2013 Alta Colina Estate GSM USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles Adelaida District

Still wonderfully consistent and getting better with a little more bottle age!

Flight 3 (1 note)

Red
2015 Bedrock Wine Co. Heritage Wine Papera Ranch USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
91 points
Very good! Fantastic? Not really. We paired this Bedrock 2015 Papera with a Carlisle 2015 Papera. Both were opened and allowed to breath for two hours. The Bedrock was the brighter flavored of the two, but the Carlisle was the more structured of the the two. Amongst the 10 of us drinking them, the Carlisle was preferred 6:4. Don't get me wrong! They are both wonderful wines! It was just that the Carlisle outshone the Bedrock when tasted head to head.

Red
2015 Carlisle Zinfandel Papera Ranch USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Excellent wine! A strong 92! We tasted this Carlisle Papera head to head with a 2015 Bedrock Papera. The Carlisle was preferred by the group. The Carlisle struck us as having better structure, a longer finish, more integrated flavors, just an overall better wine. They were both good, but the Carlisle was the clear favorite!

Red
2015 Shafer TD-9 USA, California, Napa Valley

Shared this bottle at a restaurant dinner with a bunch of friends. It was good, but it was not notable - it did not make me stop and say, "That's really good!" I guess my sense was that I can get wines that are just as good for less money. Maybe I just need to save up my $$$ and spring for a Hillside Select!
