Tasted December 25, 2007 by Wrighty with 527 views
Introduction
Regular sort of Christmas but I'd picked up a couple of old Beaucastels which I had my eye on for a while - proved to be a good decision
Flight 1 (1 note)
Pre dinner drink
White - Sparkling
2002 Heidsieck & Co. Monopole Champagne Gold Top Brut
91 points
supple and approachable. Good balance and adecent mousse - quite surprised.
Flight 2 (1 note)
With appetisers of parma ham and melon and a salmon terrine
White
2006 Montana Sauvignon Blanc Reserve Marlborough
91 points
Buckets of full rounded fruit. Decent finsh as well.
Flight 3 (2 notes)
With a turkey breast, pheasant breast and chicken breast roll
Red
1985 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape
94 points
Medium red colour, clear. Nose was also clear with some fragrance. Palate had soft cherries and rasberries but silk texture was the highlight. Beautifuly developed and drinking so sweet.
Red
1988 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape

This had a nose like farmyard and was a little harsher than he '85. Some meat and leather as well as cherry. A little too much acid but picking bones really.
Flight 4 (1 note)
Wil Christmas pudding
White - Sweet/Dessert
2000 Különleges Minõségü Édes Bor Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos

Didn't take any notes but was pleasantly surprisped. Good balance and acidity to hold the sweetness. Surprised most of the sceptics and would buy again.
